Does using the built-in ND filter hurt the image quality? Im trying to think if you could just use and ND filter and not have to shoot at 1/4000?
If it's anything like the X100, it can change the color cast of the image. Just something to know if you were like me and thought the RF bought you an extra bit of SS vs something like the X100.

BH rep confirmed I am within the first 20 orders (same morning pre-order as launch), and yet they are already out of stock because Fuji is holding onto them, even the ones already in the US. Slightly disappointing, since 15 days ago they had confirmed I'd be in the first shipment that made it to the US. They have no ETA whatsoever about next shipment.

Wow, pathetic effort by Fuji, so few cameras were in the first shipment why even bother with all the marketing hype of sending 100 photographers to Prague then not making anything like enough cameras for the largest US dealer to have more than 10-20 units.
They can't blame the tariffs for this first batch either but now because of all the uncertainty we probably wont see any cameras in the US for many, many months.
I cancelled and will be keeping my M10-R for the foreseeable future.

Seems like you may have been within that, if the two business account reps that over two weeks mentioned it to me were correct. The first one confirmed on Apr. 9th I'd get it on time. It is, in the end, an over $5k camera, first generation. Perhaps ordering slightly earlier in the morning was enough.
It is quite shocking that BH did not get enough units, even if for a single color, to satisfy even 20 orders. Either BH doesn't really have the leverage one may think, or Fuji has questionable logistics and strategies—regardless of tariffs.
If I had known that, I'd have used Moment or even Best Buy. The annoying thing is that their business rep put in writing on Apr. 9th that I'd get it on time (and they were not sure how to handle and walk back from that on the phone, obviously.) Not great as handling of a business client.

My first time in many years ordering a new camera, I buy everything used here. But you're right, lesson learned. They'll probably be some on eBay for the same price as a new car.

The writing was on a wall for a long time, and Fuji hasn't had a "good" launch of any product in years.
You simply don't order from B&H if you want things on release. You'd think people would have figured that out by now.
Yeah, I learned that with the D800. It was available locally months earlier than from B&H. But at this point, I generally don't care that much if I have to wait a little while. This time it just worked out.

I’d bet that the lack of sufficient initial units has more than one cause.
Certainly Fujifilm has some history when it comes to coming up short on initial supplies of new products — and sometimes those issues continue for months (or years!).
I’m not a camera sales insider by any means, but I’ll bet that vendors like B&H expect more than one pre-release shipment — since Fujifilm is still working to get initial units manufactured and stock built up prior to the release date. I expect that B&H (and probably others) got an initial shipment that was allocated early on… and then once the gross uncertainties created by the import tax craziness (on, off, on again, off again, 10%, 50%, 100%, maybe 0% on some products, but maybe not really) set in, plans were shot to pieces.
If I were Fujifilm and I had not quite enough units to meet initial global demand, in the current import tax climate I would be routing them to places where I the market was more predictable… and where I could be sure that I’d have some profit at the list price.
As to the question of being the first on the block to get the new thing versus waiting a bit…
…in most cases I’d wait a bit. It isn’t unusual for manufacturing/design issues to turn up in the first units after the initial buyers get their hands on them. Plus, a lot of what we “know” before a product is actually released is somewhat unreliable, and we have much better information after more users can report real-world experience. If the purchase isn’t a time-critical need, what is the hurry?
On the other hand, in some cases being in the first wave can make sense. For example, if the product is truly a critical, must-have thing — either because you have been waiting a long time for its features to resolve a critical shortcoming of your current gear, or when it is an update to an already-mature product and more likely to be reliable.

I don’t know the ins and outs of unit allocation but I recall Thom Hogan writing about this years ago. It’s likely Fuji is required to provide some allocation to all of their retailers for the initial shipments and thus can’t just route a ton of units to B&H. This was precisely the issue with the D800 that resulted in it being much easier to find locally than from the big national retailers.

i got mine today and the EVF is defectived. 3/4 of the EVF screen has the vertical lines running down, like how your TV broken. lol It is going back and replacement unit will ship out tomorrow.

I was wondering why I saw no pics from you with this camera . . . what a bummer.

It’s also to their advantage to distribute across as many retailers as possible so they’re not beholden to B&H and Amazon
