Can’t wait to see the APO 35mm f/2 ASPH in action. Hopefully, the performance is solid like all their past lenses. I wonder if they’ll experiment with different materials like they did with the 8 Element.
With the design being similar to the APO, there’s a chance the same mounting issues might occur on some cameras, especially certain L-mount models. The protruding glass element, like on the LLL 28mm lens, could be a problem again.

we’ll see if they dare to release an optical block diagram for the lens.
They’ve published lens diagrams for of all their “knockoff” lenses so far. So daring! It’s almost like they actually wanted you to see their good work and to provide transparency.

@LightLensLab, could you share more details about the new lenses and their body and optical designs, particularly the new Light Lab Lens 35mm f/2 APO ASPH.? Thank you!

Thanks-
Hi, I went to sleep after publishing the announcement as it was late.
Fred reached out to me a few days ago, but I was not able to comment due to the said announcement, I will copy it here:
In regard to the 35mm f/2 APO ASPH. Please be aware that it is a very early prototype and there are several major changes to the design of the lens.
The 35mm f/2 APO ASPH is an entirely new design. The body design is derived from the design of the 35mm f/1.4 ASPH "11873" and it has no connection to the 35mm f/2 APO Summicron. The only element that is inspired by Leica is the lens hood.
Optically, it is also different from Leica's design, however it is inevitable to be a comparison between Leica, since we consider the 35mm f/2 APO Summicron to be the best lens Leica has ever made.
The original lens Angenieux 50mm f1.5 S21 has a 51.5mm filter thread. I expected LLL to make the Z21 50/1.5 a 52mm thread. Will using the 49mm filter increase vignetting on the GFX camera? We will appreciate it if you do a vignetting test (with and without filter) with the GFX camera.
When shooting with a filter on the LLL 50mm f1.2 "1966" lens, vignetting increases (on FF camera), which is very unpleasant.

Sorry I mispoke, after some measurement the filter thread on the prototype copy is 52mm!
