I just got mine and it’s a gorgeous lens, I thought I was buying a weird looking fun lens but the photos don’t do it justice, in hands I find it to be LLL most beautiful lens.
Now I need to test it but it looks promising. It flares.
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on it.
Mine arrived today and I agree, the lens is stunning, especially on the M10-R Black Paint body. It feels like it was made for it, with the glossy black finish and chrome accents matching the camera perfectly. It definitely draws more attention though, so not the most discreet setup.

Haha! It must be a nice setup. I did put mine on my Nikon Zf, it’s quite beautiful on it and very well balanced. The Zf is a strange beast, the camera is beautiful but almost every lens I put on it really doesn’t fit well aesthetically. The Z21 is great on the Nikon though.
I said it already but the lens is light and very well balanced, I bet it’s the case on the M10-R too. I will try it on my M-E, I didn’t even did that yet.
I would be curious to see how it looks like on your Sony A7CR.

I'll be starting the review soon, and so far my first impressions are positive. This lens has a completely different character compared to the LLL 50mm f/2 SP2. The LLL 50/1.5 Z21 produces higher contrast at the center, but if your subject falls outside the center area, especially beyond the rule of thirds, there's a noticeable drop in resolution and contrast.
The SP2, on the other hand, delivers consistent sharpness across the entire frame, including the corners. Optical vignetting on the Z21 is quite strong, which creates pronounced cat's-eye bokeh, but interestingly, the light falloff or vignetting shading is very minimal.

The Z21 looks quite unique in the LLL line up indeed, the swirl alone puts it apart, it seems uncanny sharp in the dead center.
It surely is different from the LLL 50mm 1.2 if compared to their one other lens that is not f2.
I also believe it to be more different from the Voigtlander Heliar than I would have thought.
There seems to be quite a lot to unpack with this lens.

The good news is this is not caused by FC. I can focus at the center and then recompose to place my subject on the rule of thirds point, and the image quality remains very similar to focusing directly on that area. This means that with rangefinder focusing, recomposing works well and retains image quality as long as the subject stays within that zone. Placing subjects further out will shift them into a softer area with lower contrast and resolution, which is simply a characteristic of the lens and may even be desirable depending on the image.
I think the Z21 works best when the subject is placed near the center or within the rule of thirds area. That's where you get the higher contrast and resolution, which helps isolate the subject and gives the image a stronger visual impact.

Any idea if the more matte finish has come out yet?
You might want to reach out to Light Lens Lab directly for more details on the finish. As far as I know, PopFlash (USA) no longer carries this lens or may not be receiving any more Light Lens Lab lenses.

Can anyone shed some light on the availability of the LLL 50 1.5 Z21 lens in the USA? I can't find it in stock or even available from any of the listed distributors. Has anyone ordered one directly from Light Lens Lab? Thanks for any direction.

Received my glossy black Z21 yesterday. First impressions are that it's simply a beautiful lens. Like a male equivalent of a luxury handbag. The metal somehow has an iridescent shimmer. Smaller than I anticipated, but still objectively long for a 50mm due to the built-in hood. Central composition essential due to peripheral softness akin to biotar 1.5/75 helios 1.5/85 biotar 1.4/50 TTartisans 1.5/75 etc. Aperture feels very nice. Focus ring could be slightly smoother, and doesn't have the satisfying feel as a quality brass one. Waiting to get some good results in natural lighting. Will compare with similar lenses as time allows.
