A few clips from pre-capture images played back at 10x slow motion - play the entire 1 minute clip in 6 seconds and you will get the idea. Underexposed hi-ISO is a bad combination - looks fine as 4K video though

Is it better than the later frames where it runs on water? No, not really but fun to see a different frame for once. I have a million take off sequences that start a few fractions of a second later than this.
So basically pre-capture is a function that works on the Sony Cameras, but does not work on Canon cameras. Not really surprised at this point. Just disappointed as usual.

Precapture works on Canon cameras. I got some shots of birds launching when I had the R5II for a couple days. Some report the Canon not doing well with birds launching towards you. I didn't really test that so that may be true. But the precapture can still be used for many applications on the Canon R5II and R1. Earlier precapture features on other Canon cameras are less useful because of the container file and needing Canon software to extract the files.

gkinard1952's label Canon pre-capture as not working because AF doesn't track well with movement. To some that is the main allure of the feature. Sony implementation works better and more inline to users were expecting.
Technically pre-capture ability works on Canon but there are gotchas which spoils the full usefulness. Kinda like advertising a car with "self-driving" ability, but only if you're holding the steering wheel fully attentive. What most people want/expect is self-driving without user supervision.
