Even with the slower aperture, there's still a nice quality of transition / separation to the BG. I reckon it is in part to the APO that is similar to what Peter Karbe references in the video where he is discussing the SL APO Cron's compared to the M Lux transitions.

Yes, I see that type of separation.
For me, this lens helps me practice selecting backgrounds that relate to the overall subject. Since the lens doesn't blur the background too much, it keeps the background an important part of the overall composition. I don't always succeed, but it's great practice.

Is this lens the same size as the Leica Summicron 50 v5?

I think it's close. The Leica 50/2 Summicron v5 is 1.5mm shorter but 1mm wider. The Summicron weighs 240 grams, while the Voigtlander 50/3.5 APO Type ranges from 150 grams to 250 grams.

In comparison, the CV 50/3.5 Heliar is almost the same length as the Summicron (43.5mm vs 43.2mm).

What do you guys think about the prices for the different types?

I'm leaning towards getting the CV 50/3.5 APO Type I Two-tone and selling my CV 50/2 APO.

Type I two-tone would also be my choice.

Prices are great. I'd have to go with the black Type II as first choice for the closer MFD. Its reproduction ratio is comparable to my other favorite close-focusing M lens, the 75 1.9.

75 1.9 Ultron = 1:4.4
50 3.5 APO Type II = 1:4.8
50 3.5 APO Type I = 1:6.9

Ordered the Type I two-tone today from CameraQuest for adapting to my Nikon Z7. But I will keep the Voigtlander 50mm/f2 APO in Z mount too for the option of (1) larger aperture, and (2) focus confirmation box.

Given that the Z-mount version of the 50/2 APO is apparently discontinued, I wouldn't be in a rush to sell it either. It might become difficult to find on the used market and/or at a reasonable price, if it becomes more desirable over time (especially if Cosina does not release a second version).

I'm surprised the Type II Silver (brass) is priced the same as the black. It's a beautiful lens, and while the brass makes it heavier by 74 grams (measured), it adds to the quality feel. I'm still leaning towards the Type I Two-tone, but this would be my second option—even though I don't have a silver M.

In Japan there are 3 price tiers:

- Type I Two Tone official Cosina price excluding tax: 105K yen
- Type I Black & Type II Silver: 100K yen
- Type II Black: 95K yen

At actual stores like Map Camera:

- Type I Two Tone including tax: 97K yen
- Type I Black & Type II Silver: originally 93K yen, now 90K
- Type II Black: 88K yen

The mid priced models are already having some price competition with small discounts. Map is out of stock on Type II Black whereas Fujiya Camera is out of stock on Type II Silver.

The U.S. prices seem reasonably close to Japan market prices (Map Camera etc.) at current exchange rate where yen has strengthened a bit but the tiers are simplified.

I've been very happy with my choice of Type I Two Tone so far. Haven't really felt that I need to focus closer than 0.45m on it so far and I've only been using it with my Rayqual adapter up to now to be able to utilize hard infinity. I'm also keeping my 50/2 APO in E-mount.

My latest outings with the lens on my A7CII:

Saturday around Shibuya, PP with C1 Pro & C1's own Film Styles (mostly Beyond Film / K-100):

Previous Sunday around Daikanyama, PP with RNI All Films 5 in C1 Pro):

Yes, the US prices vary based on the lens type, whereas in Japan, the construction material also influences the cost. I believe the Type I lens requires more work during production.

Thanks for sharing the galleries. The flower shots in the Daikanyama album have very nice colors and pop!

I certainly do not intend to part with the 50mm f2 APO in Z mount, nor the also discontinued Z mount 35mm f2 APO (or even my other Z mount Voigtlanders, for that matter!).

The two-tone Type I version I ordered from CameraQuest arrived this morning. I didn't have much time to test it yet but did take a few photos at lunchtime. From those quick samples, I can confirm that it works great adapted to a Nikon Z7, with excellent performance all the way to the corners, even at full aperture (as I expected would be the case on Nikon Z bodies given Fred's report that it worked fine on Sony bodies).

I have three different Leica M to Nikon Z adapters - a fixed, all-black Novoflex adapter, a silver and black Voigtlander M to Z close focus adapter, and a TechArt Pro TZM-02 M to Z autofocus adapter. While I likely will use the Voigtlander close focus adapter the least with this lens, I would say that it is the best-looking one on the camera with the two-tone lens, as that adapter has a silver ring closest to the body, then a black ring, after which the silver mount of the lens is followed by the black focusing ring, then the silver lens barrel followed by the black lens hood. The close focus adapter continues the zebra or panda theme and looks pretty cool, for what that's worth....

Pic of lens on the Z7 would be nice.

A couple of quick photos with my phone... The focusing ring and the adapter's close focusing ring also share similar hill and valley and knurling designs. A bonus.
