His "Talk/Walk" ratio on this site tells me all I need to know.

Do you consider the question of the OP to be trolling?

He has asked for inputs about his concerns with the state of affairs with Canon. I have offered inputs based on my first hand experience with other systems. This is what this thread is about, isn't it?

I don't care about brands. That's why I actively use 4 brands in parallel at the moment and recommended 3 of them for different use cases in this very thread. I do not use Canon for the simple reason that I don't find the value proposition appealing for what I do, or should I say, superior to the equipment I am currently using. The impossibility of cross using lenses also makes it just too costly.

Still, an R1 with the rumored specs would have gotten me very interested. I don't think I could have afforded one, but I would have looked very carefully. The R1 that Canon announced disappointed me relative to what had been rumored. No doubt it's nonetheless a superb tool that will enable many photographers to achieve their vision. But this is not the question the OP asked.

Some nice nature images on your Instagram and Flickr pages. Based on the images you posted it appears you worked with Nikon only for about one month in March 2024 with a Z7II and 400mm 4.5 and Z8 and 180-600mm (one of you best images, amazing bokeh)? Before that you used Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fuji, Canon and very recently Sony again with an a7rV? Is that about right? I am surprised you find time to take photographs at all with all the buying and selling going on. Why did you buy Sony since you were perfectly happy with your R5? Is it about the 200-600mm?

I quickly checked the focal length used in your photos on Flickr, and you always seen to be at the very end of the zoom range for your bird images. You appear to be using zooms as primes (at least for your keepers that you decide to publish). Why not invest once for all in 600mm f4 or 800mm f5.6?

I was surprised not to find any photographs of birds in flight, except ospreys in static flight. Not something you are interested in?

Btw I had the chance to drink an excellent bottle from BC recently. A Merlot from Oakanagan valley I think it was. Just wonderful!

Cheers,
Bernard

I guess sitting at 41.2% mirrorless market share and keep adding up, Canon must be doing something terribly wrong, no wonder other brand users are coming here showing their frustration. To the point “Canon is DOOMED”

Recent numbers from Japan showed Nikon fighting with Fuji and Panasonic for fourth place in market share in their home market, behind Canon, Sony, and OM Systems.

Hopefully it wasn’t a 2021 vintage. Major wildfire smoke affected many of the wineries.

Best post you ever had. Didn’t have to read pages of jibber to know you have nothing important to say.

I don't remember the year for sure, perhaps 2020. But it really motivated me to try more BC wines and Canadian wines in general.

I'd love to compare them to some wines from Washington and Oregon. I need to set that up with some Japanese wine lover friends of mines.

Cheers,
Bernard

Only Canon have the nerve to reuse the DSLR versions of their 600 F4 and 400 F2.8, weld a 2xTC and an adapter on there and charge 20k for it, and if you look at the optical diagram that is exactly what they did.

Big deal... Canon recycles lens parts, Sony recycles sensors, and Nikon recycles recall notices. Who cares?

"flagships" were always considered sports cameras and always had lower megapixels than others in the dslr days. I am not defending Canon but they didnt do anything out of the ordinary lets be honest. This is a problem that has to do more with the public. The whole bigger buckets of water is better stupidity that marketing is selling you.

Ah!, again, reading part of the response without considering what I was responding to. The original quote was that people just whine without buying lenses if they were available. I brought up Nikon's results to show they are selling, so someone is buying. If Canon sells, people will buy.

It was not to show Canon is not a market leader or any other statement. In fact, I don't have any Nikon or Sony gear. I have been using Canon for over 15 years now.

Once again: User Error - Below my avatar is my Facebook that links to 4 websites, Flickr is where I throw some photos in order to use their Camera Roll feature to locate files and my www is also hot.

Time to go out and play.

Concepts seem interesting but photographs are a bit hard to find in the 4 sites that you link to.

To be honest your attitude hasn’t been a great incentive to spend too much time looking. 🤣

If you read my prior posts, you would see that I was not being serious.
I was pointing out that the PDR is really no where near as bad as what is being suggested.

Next time, I will choose my words more carefully.
eg:

Cereal, why do people even bother shooting the A9III with such terrible PDR?

I don't "fanboy any brand" - I choose what tools work best for the application at hand. I happen to have had a Canon Canada CPS membership since 1999, but I'm also a Sony PRO Services member, Nikon Canada NPS member, and Panasonic Pro Services member. I don't belong to Fuji's pro service because it's too expensive for what it offers, and Fuji Canada automatically provides Pro service to GFX system owners anyway.

That means that unlike you and most of the other trolls here, I've actually owned and used the gear I'm talking about. I know that probably seems very strange to people like you, who have apparently learned everything there is to know about equipment by watching sponsored YouTube reviews by your favourite brand ambassadors, or following the hilarious DP Review posts by the pseudo-intellectuals who have never even owned a camera.

Have we figured out which brand is best yet?

My opinion:

1. Sony: has it all, including a compact flagship and also a body to shoot speeding bullets that no one else has
2. Nikon: best for wildlife with their lens lineup
3. Canon: best for sports with the release of the R1. R5II is a good all a-rounder

I would agree that the 5DsR, having basically identical DR, is still a great camera. And that the DR "issue" on Canon DSLR'S got way overblown by Sony shooters etc. 60+ fps probably just fills up the card too fast for me, might rather just have 2x the pixels, high resolution

The R3 completely blows the A9III out of the water on DR on Bill Claff's site, I believe Fro said better high iso too. Reasonable to think the R1 might have the huge DR, in addition to better high iso vs the other brand continuously mentioned. You're basically doing a video frame grab at 30 fps anyway, very fast
