p.1 #4 · Speculation on stacked BSI sensor at $4K - based on competition from Nikon/Canon
I wouldn’t expect Sony to match prices. Also, I don’t see stacked sensors coming to the A7R series or A7S series. That tech will remain in the A1/A9 series of cameras. Just my opinion.

All I'm holding out for is a A1MkII with a super high speed stacked sensor and cutting edge focus system that will eclipse even what's out there today including the proposed Quad Pixel R1 of Canon. A 50mp stacked BSI sensor is all I'd ever need. If they did a A7RV with a stacked sensor that would rip up the competition for sure. Hard to imagine they will but we can hope.

Sony isn't the only one with the AF advantage anymore anyway.
With Nikon opening its mount and Canon slowly doing the same, Sony will lose some market share in that price bracket if the other two is stacked.
Sony is in the leader position right now and can charge whatever they want until they start losing market share. We’ll see the A1 drop in price when the A2 is released and will fit right into competing with the Canon / Nikon cameras as far as price goes. The A1 still competes very nicely with cameras like the z8.

Every time Nikon sells a camera Sony makes their money. You can bet that 100% of the Nikon price cuts come out of Nikon's potential profits. If you are Sony that's just fine. One of your competitors is making money for you and when they try to compete with you they weaken their own position. Win-win. Even with their recent gains Sony still has way more market share than Nikon and continues to grow at a fast rate.
When you are at the top of the market and confident in your game you don't slash prices. I expect Sony knows exactly what Nikon has in the pipeline and the same with Canon and they have their own upgrade(s) just waiting. They could have done an easy upgrade on the A1 with the now almost 3-year-old AI technology and some of the upgrades in the A9III. The fact that they didn't implies they have something up their sleeves for the A1II. Hopefully I'm right!

I can see why Sony isn't yet incentivized from a financial point of view to switch to stacked. They are at the top of the game now and don't necessarily need to react to Nikon and Canon catching up in the short term.
But at the same time, if both R5ii and Z8 have stacked, the reviews will tear apart the Sony bodies in this class. Given Sony is used to being ahead for a while now, I don't see them inviting such criticism.

My guess is it would be global with 50mpx+, possibly 60. New chips for throughput. Fast as hell. $7500.

A1 ii is probably this.

I don't think its likely that Sony solves the engineering tasks required to have a useable 50mp global shutter. I think it is next to impossible for them to do so while dealing with the DR limitations.

Using a stacked sensor to reduce the rolling shutter effects in the A7R line makes sense. That does not mean they are going to compete with the A1 and A9 product lines for specs like frame rate.

yeah, I am guessing a 15fps A7R6 without a mechanical shutter. 1/250 or 1/500 readout speed.

That’s just blurring the lines between the A1 / A9 lines and the A7r line. If one needs to reduce the rolling shutter effects, Sony already has 2 options…why do we need three?
