TL;DW: Z6 animal AF equal if not slightly better than Z9 animal AF, but Z9 bird AF the best option for BIF.
Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of his channel in the slightest, in that he often seems to get technical details wrong, but at least he's got some side by side footage of the two cameras in similar scenarios.
There is nothing in a stacked architecture that should intrinsically reduce DR. If anything the opposite should be true - potentially more area available for the photodiode even relative to BSI, moving some circuits further away from the diode, ability to stick additional circuitry such as dual gain.
Why does Nikon's implementation degrade DR. Does the noise all come from the higher speed of the ADC clock?
There is no amount image quality degradation that will irrevocably ruin a shot that could’ve been taken in the same situation on a non stacked. PtP charts never tell the whole IQ story either.
Anybody whining about the slight differences on these new cameras can be immediately dismissed as measurbators and not creators.

This applies to all brands.

I was actually just thinking that but you are way more blunt-
I took the Z6iii out yesterday- Shot some mtn bike videos at h.265 10 bit 4k/60 with no crop-
Used it after with the Voigtlander 40 1.2 and the fabulous eye detect in MF which might even be easier then the Leica RF (can’t believe I said that)
Being a photographer/videographer/content whatever creator right now is so much fun!!!!

I'm not here to waste my time and pussy-foot around hard truths. Stop whining about stuff that has no practical bearing on your output, and OUTPUT!
It's why I'm a little loathed on the Fuji forum right now, as a matter of fact
I'm looking at the Z6iii having all the manual focus goodies of the ZF, with better ergos, best EVF on Z right now, very respectable low light AF and noise performance, CFE, and a 20fps mode that borders on the same usefulness with the Z8/Z9 for all but sports with swinging sticks, AND killer video on top of all that and thinking that looks like an awfully good B cam, and we've got Karens crying about a chart where a line is a little lower than another line.
Frankly, I was expecting better. There are cameras out ther that give top level AF and better DR. A bit dissapointing actually the sacrifices that speed seems to require.

So all of the good the camera brings you overlook?
Don't we both own cameras that don't even have Autofocus and love them? The Z6iii brings an incredible amount of features in small ish form factor some features that have never been in a camera anywhere near this price point. Granted if you don't shoot video at all or need speed this probably isn't the camera for you but you can't not call them out.
I am headed into the Canadian mountains for a mtn bike trip for the next week, filming and taking stills with nothing but this camera. The pro's far out weigh the cons of this camera for me (even if I don't really see any). The images I am seeing from this on my screen, look incredible.
Can't wait to shoot with this for the next week.

Really, I see the glass as more half full. About 2/3rds of a stop worse until ISO 800 and then equivalent performance as ISOs get higher and at base ISO the performance is still good. It actually is the same at base ISO as you M10P, which really isn't bad at all. Landscapes will never be the strength of this camera, but as a general all around camera I thing the sensor is performing well with a decent set of tradeoffs.

Here's a quick measurement of noise and DR of the mic port, when connected to a Shure MVL lav mic that receives phantom power from the camera. I couldn't get Audacity to prove a "pass" for the contrast measurement but based on the manual measurements I think it's accurate. The Z6 provides slightly more amplification than the Z6 III but with less actual noise. Note the frequency graphs of the background noise aren't to scale - I can't find a way to force Audacity to set the scale for the results.

Really, past ISO800 it level pegs with the Z6 BSI sensor. Lower than ISO800 it is a stop behind. Given the range of uses this camera is aimed at, I would say this rather exceeds most expectations. What am I missing? What are you missing?

Not overlooking the other improvements at all. Overall I think the Z6III is a very fine camera and a super addition to the Z ecosystem. My dissapointment is only that sensor tech has not advanced so that we don't need to give up meaningful IQ for speed.

What you are missing is that from a stills perspective unless shooting high speed BIF, or fast sports, there are other older cameras with advanced AF features that may be better all around choices because of IQ. Check the charts against other choices, not just the Z 6II. Competative AF seems the be the primary reason for the upgrade, but that has been avai6for a long time elsewhere.
