Is this with your $12 Chinese Amazon HDMI monitor? It’s possible it’s not well shielded from EMF.

No, it's with my $800 BlackMagic 12G Video Assist, which was probably made in the same Chinese factory as the $12 HDMI adapter lol.

@chuck77

Can you post some pictures of where the Nikon Z8 was to sharp and didn't have as good of colors as the Zf/Z6iii

I really struggle with anyone recommending a lens, criticizing a characteristic etc without showing any examples of what they see. Calling a sensor painterly is intresting- Could it be the difference in resolution that makes you think that? We don't see any pictures so we have to take your word for it.

Not saying you don't see that, just thats a bold claim to make without showing any pictures except the size of the camera-

Hmm, Amazon now has August 7-9th for body only. Still, not as backordered as the Z8 and Z9. Still, #1 seller on Amazon's New Release list for Mirrorless Cameras.

@snapsy
How does this compare with ZF for low light?

@RustyRus

Absolutely! I have some portraits taken with the Zf and the Z 85mm 1.2 that I really love the look of. In fact, the images look even better in the Nikon monochrome profile.

Let me try to put those together over the weekend to show the difference.

Z6 vs Z6 III Live View lag and Blackout times

Comparison of the following, all with the electronic shutter:

  1. Live View lag for normal (unmagnified) view. This measures how old the LV feed on LCD is vs realtime.
  2. Live View lag for 100% magnified view. This measures how old the LV feed on LCD is vs realtime. This is a useful metric for manual focus responsiveness.
  3. Live View blackout for single-shot shooting
  4. Live View blackout for Contnuous Low shooting (5fps)
  5. Z6 Live View lag for slideshow Contnuous High + shooting (8fps)
  6. Z6 III Live View blackout for Contnuous High shooting (16fps)
  7. Z6 III Live View lag for slideshow for Contnuous High + shooting (20fps)

These tests are difficult to do accurately and have a considerable margin of error owing to the interaction of the various display refresh rates (rear LCD refrresh, iPhone display refresh, etc...), not to mention any possible mistakes in my methodology.

Results for those who prefer not to watch the video:

  1. Z6 Live View Lag normal (unmagnified) view: <= ~70ms
  2. Z6 III Live View Lag normal (unmagnified) view: <= ~50ms
  3. Z6 Live View Lag 100% magnified view: ~200ms
  4. Z6 III Live View Lag 100% magnified view: ~100ms
  5. Z6 Single-shot blackout: ~200ms
  6. Z6 III Single-shot blackout: ~100ms
  7. Z6 Continuous Low 5fps blackout: ~200ms (+/- 20ms)
  8. Z6 IIII Continuous Low 5fps blackout: ~80ms (+/- 20ms)
  9. Z6 Continuous High+ 8fps slideshow lag: ~100ms
  10. Z6 III Continuous High 16fps blackout: ~65ms
  11. Z6 III Continuous High+ 20fps slideshow lag: ~50ms

@snapsy Please remind me what the Z8/Z9 latency is for 100% mag in live view. Trying to understand how the Z6iii compares.

The Z8/Z9 100% mag latency is 200ms. It's actually been 200ms on since the original Z6/Z7. The Zf was their first camera that reduced it to 100ms, and the Z6 III appears to incorporate that change as well.

Here are my posts on the Z9 and Zf measurements:

Here is another consideration - Why purchase the Z6 III or Zf instead of the Z8? The 24 megapixel sensor is not just a lot better at high ISO, but the colors are more vibrant and painterly as well. This is not something that the specs will reveal to you. Even if you tweak the Z8 files in post production, the results are not identical. Z8 gives you clinically sharp images with flatter colors in comparison.

It's interesting that you've found color profiles to be so different between the 'amateur' camera and the 'professional' camera, where the 'professional' camera has more 'flat' colors compared to the 'amateur' camera having more 'painterly' colors.

Are you sure that the same color profiles were chosen on both cameras? If your analysis is correct then it tells us something about Nikon's marketing efforts.

I have the Z5 and it is OK for most things accept BIF and the like. The Z6 III looks like a vast improvement over my Z5 and the original Z6. I'm gonna sit back and wait for all the updates etc. to settle down with the Z6 III before I pull the trigger or just keep on loving my old d850

Yes it is available here and there. But four retailers with volimes that likely greatly exceed Roberts have any none stock - Amazon, B&H, Adorama, Beat Buy. Yet all three have kits sitting on shelves. Kits not moving is a bit of a troubling sign for Nikon, as it suggests that the vast majority of purchases are replacements and not newcomers to the system.

I really doubt the Z6lll is for newcomers to the system.

The kits of newly released cameras are usually more readily available.

Or that the kits are not enough of a saving. Where I live it is atleast the same price if not cheaper to buy all but the 24-70 lens in a kit - ironically that kit seems available but I am not interested in that lens.

snapsy have you tested the lowlight AF of the Z6 III and how does it perform, especially in comparison to the Z8? Thanks!
