The only question is how much better will it be vs the latest Sony a7 (and Canon R6II but that bar is lower).
I believe that Nikon will have been targeting another Z8 moment with the Z6III.
Agreed. Hopefully with it, they announce the 35mm 1.2 S, but both have been long in the tooth. I'm trying to understand where Nikon puts the Z6 III now since the original Z6 was their videocentric camera whereas the Z7 was the photographic camera. I'm curious if they will put more videocentric features in the Z6 III vs Z8/Z9? Granted it won't have 8K because the resolution isn't there, but, in other ways will it be more video focused? The Expeed7 will be there for the power.

Haha, yep. But I’m hopeful especially with the amount of spec rumors.
There aren't really many spec rumors. After the initial burst of information we know the most important things, at least from a still image perspective:
24MPx BSI, high-ish frame, flippy screen, somewhat larger than a Z6 but smaller than a Z8

It looks like it will already be significantly better than the most recent Z6II as far as video specs go, I just hope that it has a sensor shield/cover like the Z8/9. Every camera that has interchangable lenses and shots video should have one of these by default.

One has to wonder why they left it out of the Zf then...

Well the A7IV is a few years old now so it should be straight forward to be better is some areas. It will also be worse in some areas. I think the Z6III should have faster FPS, stronger video specs as examples. The A7IV has 24mpx and the Z6III will have 24mpx according to the rumors as one example. For now the A7IV will have a much stronger lens ecosystem in the focal lengths that the Z6III is likely to use. That is just how the industry works these days. Both will produce excellent stills and video.

Iirc, the A7IV is 33mp. For video I’m happy with 24mp as the low light in both photo and video is really good. As for the lenses, I think at this point, Nikon has covered what you could want. Portraits, wides, telephotos pretty well, plus you have Tamron and now Sigma is about to join up.
I had the Sony A7iv and it has 33MP, no issues with it used it along with a 20-70mm and 70-200mm f4, great combo, which Nikon does not have. I've used all the major brands at one stage or another, I like to do my own testing and reviews. They all produced similar images, ergo became more important to me in the end.
If only this website had a Sony forum where you guys could navel gaze and fawn over Sony in reply to every topic, without all the Nikon discussions getting in the way…

Fortunately adapters work so well these days that all those great FE mount lenses can be considered as being part of the Z mount eco-system.

If only the Nikon people could discuss Nikon products without comparing them to other brands. As is usual on the Nikon Forums it is the Nikon people who turn the conversation towards other brands.
