Is there any updated findings for this reissue?
Whether the glow is similar to the steel rims and old lux V1, or it’s a lot more modern wide open?
I have 50 lux asph black chrome and 35 steel rims, so if the rendering wide open resembles classic glowy 50 lux V1 or V2, I can justify buying this, but if wide open it’s too similar with ASPH then maybe not for me.
Used to have a chrome 50 lux V2, loved that lens, regretted selling it.

Wide open, the 'new classic' has central zone contrast and smooth background bokeh that resemble the modern ASPH lens; but beyond a 15mm radius the contrast and sharpness fall apart very quickly with strong field curvature.
The v3 ( optically nearly identical to the v2 ) has obvious background outlining and better foreground bokeh, so while the 11714 may be derived from the v2 Summilux' optical configuration, there has been significant tweaking under the hood. Modern coatings add flare suppression and I have only seen localised glow in the most extreme of backlit situations.
If you want a lens that renders like the steel rim, try the Voigtländer Heliar 50mm f/1.5.

I am going to track one down again to compare- Maybe Fred will sell me mine back
Thanks for selling it to me! It's become one of my favorite lenses for its beautiful rendering and surprisingly lightweight design for a 50mm f/1.4, and I can't imagine ever parting with it.

Doesn’t sound like that one is headed back to Rusty….lol

Can I say something?....pleeease...
I read about this lens here and there and I am trying to wrap my head around the following issue:
at wide open lens is not sharp across and writers/users call this magical or glowing effect....I mean its all fun and games till someone loses and eye...er...I meant usd 3800+tax..
Can that glow and magic be introduced in post processing?...and money spent on a sharp lens?

I love that you are enjoying it!!!! Some great photos I have already seen with it man!
I don’t have mine yet, but the background blur looks nothing like a V2 to me. Here are some V2 pics from this past weekend. I like the little bubbles of the V2, but I’m really digging the softness I’m seeing from the reissue
Do you see some of the glows / uncorrected SA wide open at MFD?
Haven't shot enough with it yet to tell-
If the weather stays, taking it out tonight for some sample shots. First impression though is its nothing like the V3 I owned but I will hold judgement.

Do you like you the "portrait" effect on your phone? Do you shoot your camera at f/8 and then apply a PS effect?
If the answer is yes to the above then, I guess, the answer is yes to your question.
