Still mad this didn’t release the M11D in black paint like it was rumored to be. It’d be an instant buy for me.
It is black paint, just not the glossy black paint of the past. I would think they will most likely come out with the glossy black paint on brass at some time, with a screen. They will just need to take some of the brass bodies from the chrome M11's.

The black paint he's referring to is Leica's "classic" glossy black paint on brass, featured on models like the Leica MP, M-D Typ 262, and M10-R Black Paint edition. The new matte black paint on aluminum offers a completely different look and feel. It shows fewer scratches and fingerprints but, in my opinion, it's not as cool. Also, it doesn't develop that patina over time.

Which I think I pointed out in my post.
Yes, indeed. It seems the initial information was leaked to the Leica rumor site, accurately describing the 'black paint' finish. However, it has a completely different look and feel compared to Leica's previous black paint cameras, surprising many people.

I have a black paint MP and a black chrome M10-R. I have an M11-P, M and D. I actually like the look and feel ot the new finish on the black M11 camera. I know it is not universally liked by all. If they come out with an M11 with the glossy black paint on brass I might get one, but would more than likely use the camera with the new finish more often.

Bob,
Since you have all of them, you seem like the right person to ask. Is the finish on the "D" similar to that of the "P" and "M"? I've heard that the "P" has a slightly rougher texture to the touch.

The paint finish feels the same to me. What does feel different is the grain on the leather or leatherette covering of the body. The grain feels and looks smaller on the M11-D vs the M-11-P. I think it is the same as the M11-M from what I can tell. It is a subtle difference but there.
I think after the M11, they have had some batch variability to the finish. Not sure it has anything to do with the models.
I had 4 black copies of the M11, and all had a thick, rough texture. My M11M paint was still thick but less aggressively textured. My M11-D feels like the finest textured of them all and with a thinner coat, but it still has significant grip, like the finest grit sandpaper after you've worn it down a bit.

I think the best combo might actually be something they've only made on the 2022 reissue M6 by putting the black matte paint from the M11 over brass. Jimmy Cheng has a YT video showing his 2022 M6 is starting to brass fairly quickly. It must be that the M11-style matte black paint bonds very well to aluminum but less so to brass.
1) Can you turn focus peaking off when using a visoflex? (m10-d had no way to disable it)
2) in the Fotos app, can you set interval shooting to say 100 frames (m10-d was limited to 5)

1) You can cycle through different types of aid you see in the Visoflex. The first is focus peaking, then info w/ histogram and focus peaking, then the same as previous with grid and level, and the last setting is no aids. So you can have no focus peaking but you cannot have any of the other info without focus peaking. This is done with the function button next to the shutter release and the previous setting is remembered.
2) There is no interval option in the drive mode. You can select between single, low, and high speed. Not sure why this was not included on the M11-D. You have this option on the M11-P in the Fotos app.

If I recall and just to be clear, you do not have to go to the Fotos app to activate interval shooting on the M11P.
You are correct you can do it from the menus on the screen. You don't have the screen on the M11D so I was comparing what the differences are in Fotos between the two cameras.

Thank you for the info! Seems like progress on the focusing aids but a step backwards on the interval shooting function.

I just sent them a feature request from the FOTOS app. I have a feeling they dropped this as a drive mode since it's such an app-dependent feature (since obviously most people don't set it to interval and leave it there ).
To illustrate the nature of the M11 black paint variability:
In this photo, the battery shown in my M11-D camera is my old extra M11 battery from almost two years ago. Even though it has some wear, you can see how the paint is thicker and the texture is more aggressive. The loose battery on the right is the battery that came with the M11-D. Not an exact match to the camera, but it's closer than the older battery. This battery that came with my M11-D looks like the finish from my old M11M.
My M11-D finish is closer to the SL3 finish than it is to the M11 and M11M cameras I've had.

While you're at it why not ask for formatting of the Sd card as wells internal memory? I know a few who would buy it if it had this simple M11 variant capability.
