Thank you louie, truly stunning images. WOW!
I am curious how many images you typically get in a single sequence?
Also, what frame rate are you using? 30, 60, or 120 FPS?
Do you use Pre-Capture in the eagle shots?
TIA, K-H.
Thanks. I typically shoot at 30fps, with my burst mode set to 60fps. I do shoot in small bursts, sometimes I hold my shutter down a bit too long and end up with way too many images. Normally, I'll hold the shutter down until I feel that I've captured the action I want to and let up. No, I did not use Pre-capture on these eagles, typically they are slow enough that I can catch them as they launch. I have C1 programmed for turning Pre-capture on and off, in toggle mode.

I've been using 2.0 on the A9III with not a single hiccup. Looks like 2.01 fixes a bug when shooting at f/18 or higher, something I never do.
I will of course update in case the generic "Improves the operational stability of the camera" actually means anything, but I suspect that's a boilerplate line that means nothing, since 100% of all firmware releases always include that line at the end.
The A9III did an impressive job of tracking this magpie through a whole flight sequence, keeping the eye in focus. Something the A1 would struggle with because of the black eye on a black body while there are other higher-contrast areas to tempt the AF.
Has anyone tried the new firmware (2.01)? Wondering if's safe to install.
BTW yesterday noticed that pre-capture can stop working if the camera is hot. I was shooting 3 soccer games in a row, and on the second game the camera started showing the pre-capture icon along with the crossed circle. It's something to be aware of if you live in a "warm" place.

Interesting. I forgot about the update and didn't install it last night. I plan on going out to photograph some birds this weekend so I'll give it a whirl if the weather cooperates.
I used precapture 100% of the time on my trip to Colombia in March and it was very hot some of the places we were and I never had any issues with pre-capture. Might not have been as hot as where you were though. What were the temps?

91F / 33C but under direct sunlight. 30 fps, 0.5s pre-buffer. The camera is wrapped into "Arctic White" 3M film which *I think* is doing a great job reflecting heat. I also had an unwrapped Canon R3 and it was so hot I could barely hold it

The 24 MP images are un-cropped and scaled down for web use with max length of 1200 pixel.
In Photoshop the full size images can be animated. Is this like shooting video?
I don’t think so from an image quality point of view.
Took the a9iii out for 1st time to give it a shake down and see what I forgot to set. i don't like the stiffness of some of the buttons but BIF is cheating.
