Are these from the pre-production version Fred?
Yes, only the samples “portraits” are from the pre-production copy. However, I've tested both lenses side by side, and they are exactly the same in every aspect. Both are centered perfectly as well! I'm speculating, but I think the delay was likely because of production issues, with no optical changes.
So I will call a spade a spade here- I am usually a Leica snob when it comes to fit, finish and handling. I really enjoy the subtle things of a Leica lens over a CV lens. For example the 28 Ultron vs the Summicron. I just never liked the Ultron- I could never have it replace my Lux or my cron. Take IQ out of the equation- I just didn’t like it. I’m ok using some disposable income for the small perceived gains I got from going Leica-
I finally made it home from travel and the 28 1.5 type 2 in black has been sitting on my desk. This thing is absolutely perfect looking. Smooth focus throw, stiff but smooth aperture, solid feeling, balances well on my M11.
I really can’t wait to go shoot with this later today. Really impressed so far. This might be the first Voigtlander to truly replace some of my Leica lenses- Time will tell but man this thing is beautiful.

It's definitely a contender for me, to be my first Voigt. There has always been some "poison(s)" to my dismay about some other Voigts. Not to say this one is perfect, but the things I don't like ... are pretty small-ish, and the size is pretty smallish (i.e. better corrected abberrations), too (for f/1.4). Now, about that front silver ring, never been a fan, but ...
Imo, it's non-FLE (vs. the Lux) construction gives it a rendering that sits a bit between a Lux and an Elmarit, yet not a Cron.
I thought I was looking for a Cron to carry instead of my Q2. So, I'm still curious to see how it compares to the Q2 Lux.
Would like to see it compared to a Cron, also ... i.e. different rendering(s). Although, that comparison could produce some pretty strong opinions about "better", if folks don't give credence to "different" (by intent) vs. "preference".
That's basically the Q Lux +/- 1/2 stop options from Voigtlander vs. Leica.
A shootout of these five would be quite interesting (and a lot of work) to see the diff's / pref's.
(Not for the purpose to convey "better") ... they're all good, really good ... just different.

Infinity Performance compared to Voigtlander 28mm f/2.8 Color-Skopar
In the Voigtlander 28mm f/2.8 Color-Skopar review, we found it to be a high-performance lens, closely competing with the Voigtlander 28/2 Utron. While the Color-Skopar shows slightly higher vignetting when wide open, its resolution and contrast are very similar to the Utron.
Now, how does the faster 28mm f/1.5 Nokton compare?
I did a comparison at infinity distance, and the test indicates that the Nokton is also a high-performance lens, on par with its counterparts, and even surpasses them in some areas of the frame. If you're into landscape photography, both lenses would be equally excellent, although the Color-Skopar's compact size is a notable feature.
Distance: Infinity
Focus: Center - Best of three @ 12.4x magnification
What annoys me about this lens... the red lettering. I have the 50 1.5, and the 75 1.5, both black lenses with all white lettering, then they go and add some red lettering to the 28 1.5, and also the 35 1.5. will likely end up ordering anyway 😃

Black paint lenses from Leica (much more expensive) have red lettering and is usually quite desirable.
