So what I should rationally be doing is purchasing a 24-120/4, but I like primes and I like the look of this for portraits. I see decentering mentioned as an issue for this lens. Has anyone else had issues?

Mine seems perfectly fine. I didn't initially check for it, but looking at some night sky images, I don't see anything amiss.
Fun lens. I did a lot of family photos with it for a few months, but I've drifted back to the 40 f/1.2 or some autofocus options for that instead. I did hope it would be a do-it-all for the Z8 since I could crop it to ~40, but it turns out I still just prefer the 40 f/1.2 as that one-lens digital option.
Anyway, here are a couple of backyard ones from when it was new.

Just gotten myself this 28mm Nokton as the best native fast 28mm for Sony, first impression is it's very nice. Hope to post more soon!

Thanks for your thoughts and the pictures. I also have my eye on the 40/1.2 but it’s a bit hard to justify having that and the Nikkor 40/2 and no other Z mount glass!

More from today at Tokyo, 28mm Nokton e mount on Sony a9. Preliminary quick brick wall test shown 4 corners relatively similar, and purple fringing was better than expected wide open, very similar to 28lux. This will be my main lens from now onwards, the rendering literally feels like I'm shooting on Leica.

I summarized its use on this blog post https://www.leicaimages.com/blog/27 pretty straight forward. I think its a fantastic lens especially for travel. And for up close, it can't be beat in this focal length.
