I find it amusing when people complain about Leica pricing; it's a LUXURY product. I wonder if people complain about $30K Rolex watches?
Would I buy an SL3 for $8K? Nope. An M12 for $10K? Nope. I might wait for pricing to go down when initial buyers sell for a loss. I mean you can get M11s for around $6.8K now.
In any case, let the people with $$ buy the MSRP Leica pricing; I'll buy if the product is good when they sell them for a loss. That's the way it always goes. I think it's fine as long as you're comfortable buying used.
Leica had some pretty unique things on the original SL for the time such as a high quality and high res EVF, 4K video, 120fps HD slow motion, etc. Today with the SL3, Leica would need a 9 million dot EVF, 8K video, PDAF, and a fast stacked sensor just to keep up, much less to provide at least a few premium features that few other manufacturers offer. The M is different. Its premium features are self-defining: an optical rangefinder with tiny manual focus lenses and analog controls. Leica doesn't need to dramatically improve the M with each generation because no other manufacturer is seriously competing in that space.
I certainly won't begrudge anyone who willingly pays $8K for an SL3 (8K video for $8K!), but I think the SL3 will spec out a bit below other flagship cameras and may not be worth the luxury premium. Luxury only takes you so far with any given audience.

+1. I paid $7.5K for the original SL ($12.5K with the 24-90 included). It was a different market though. In the current market and with the SL3 specs as we know them I feel $8K would be a really tough sell but I might be wrong...

If the SL3 is indeed in the high end of $8,000, are you still planning to get one at release, or would you prefer to wait for a used copy down the road?
I am probably going to hold out down the road and buy used. If it gives me everything though (Internal storage, 60mp sensor with 24mp mode, autofocus on par with the S5IIx, same layout as the SL2 in a slighly lighter and smaller body) it may be hard for me to resist given that is essentially my dream camera.
Have a set of cinema lenses that I rarely use that recently jumped in price, selling them would fully cover the cost. That is just GAS talking though

Not for me
I am happy with my SL2-S, apart from contrast-detect AF.
So if they plan to release an SL3-S with phase-detect AF for say 6500, I'm in

I'm first on the list at my local Leica store, so that's probably a yes.
I already have every lens I want for the system so it's not THAT big of an upgrade path.

3-24-24 is 3S counting the days in the month of March as letters, if one puts the month before that date, but even day before month it's still S 3. Oh no, did I say that!

I bought the SL2 used, if I ever get an SL3 it will also be used. I like the design, build and handling of the SL2, but these are luxury items that are difficult for me to justify. If a used SL3 is still too much, I’ll switch to Panasonic and keep using the lenses that I have.
That is the selling point of the L mount system, there are several bodies and lenses at different price points to choose from. For your favourite lens, splurge and get a summicron APO. Otherwise save a bundle and get a lens from Lumix or Sigma which are as good as any other name brand lens systems. It isn’t Leica or bust.

Smaller footprint, PDAF, flip screen, sounds like the changes a lot of people wanted but $8K... personally for $8K I would pick a Hasselblad if I had to choose...

For that price, I would rather get an X2D 100c. Different horses, of course.
Or both! As a current SL2 and X2D shooter I use them very differently. The SL is better suited for eye AF (although not great), low light work, the IBIS is better and it has pixel shift. Video is also big reason. The SL makes adapting lenses (especially M-mount) a breeze including EXIF, mechanical shutter, less vignetting. That said, I prefer landscapes with the Hassy, especially long exposures. The DR is the best I have seen and the ultra wide primes are sublime. Colors and skin tones are the best I have seen out of camera with little to no editing required. I expect an SL3 will be on my radar. My SL2 is going on 5 years of wear. I wouldn't mind an upgrade.

Very good point worth considering, even if I have 6 SL lenses. Just love my Sl2S's with 24MP and multi-shot to 96MP.

A 20% reduction in weight would be down to 668g - very interesting! A 20% reduction in size is much harder to calculate; do they mean volume? Where will it shrink? Height? - very welcome. Width? Also good. Both? - great. If it is accurate it will be smaller than the Nikon ZF, and probably about the size of the Canon R5 - about 8cm less in both directions. We’ll see how all this holds up.

I never thought about going back to Hasselblad, but if this SL3 is in the USD8k range then I just might since it looks an interesting one and has 100MP BSI sensor, which I do not need and with a tilt LCD. All this said if I get one then I will buy another SWC again which I used and liked VERY much with my Phase P45+. Sure the SWC is 6x6 and the CFV is 33x44, but that SWC is a very nice kit to own.
The new Hassy lenses look very good too. Attached to the 907x they offer a small form factor.
Then there is the new Fuji 100II in this price range. But again to do I need a 100MP sensor-NO, but I do have GAS.
After comparing some specs I now see the GFX 100II is the EVF winner so far mainly due to the 9.44 EVF which is removable when serous tilt screen use is desired. Probably the better all around camera since weather sealing good too versus the Hassy without it, but horses for courses.
3.2" LCD seems to be standard at 2.360-some tilt and ? for the SL3 (I hope so) and the EVF is important with the GFX 100II setting a new benchmark in this price range not forgetting it is small MF or about a 20% larger sensor than FF. I see the GFX has 1x magnification and currently the SL2 has 0.78 magnification. I never focus with the LCD accept for when waist level shooting desired so better than a 2.360 could be beneficial.
Hope SL3 will have hybrid AF with both PDAF and CDAF whereas I see the GFX has PDAF only.
It seems Leica will have its work cut out with the SL3 to excel in most areas. Price of course is not the only factor, but it sure helps when explaining to the wife what I just bought and why.
I continue to explore for the one sealed camera with AF that suits my needs and works well with the one eye I have left.

I still shoot with the 50 Summilux SL and have relatively big hands. I get why they made it smaller, but the space between the grip and the lens looks tight with the APO Summicron-SL attached.

Lloks a lot like the S5II. I like the handling of the Panny with Leica glass so it should be good. Also has a control dial on the top left like the Panny as well. The L2 alliance might make the cameras very similar indeed.
