To provide access to the best full frame lenses Leica has ever made; the Leica SL APO primes.
At least that's why I bought the Leica SL2 😎
And some of the SL zooms are no slouches either. I have shot some downright magical images using the SL 24-90 and the SL 90-280.
I am actually quite excited about the SL3 and am looking forward to reviews. My SL2 has been wonderful and I will keep it as a second body. Sold my S1R as it was just too big for my hands, but the SL2, while slightly large, still works just fine for me. And, even though the lenses (in particular the 90-280) are heavy, I have never regretted traveling with them. For me, it is worth carrying the weight for the IQ that this system is capable of.

Not sure how accurate without specific SL3 measurements, but interesting illustration IMO
LBJ2, if the reduced dimension of the SL3 between the grip and the lens mount is accurate that is like the classic Sony squeeze play...not good haptics at all for larger lenses.

It'll be almost exactly the same as my 35-75 zoom on my X2D in size and weight for a SL3 and 24-90. More than fine for most hands. I can use gloves with my 'blad. The Sony's are still a bit slimmer in the finger grip area.

Throw a M-L adapter on a SL2/SLs and you have a really good M camera...
Sort of. You have the best version of an M camera that’s not an M camera but full frame Leica lenses designed for L mount will still outperform the M lenses.

An SL camera would, presumably, better allow me to see, in real time, the background effects I am creating, with a “character” M lens, such as the Thambar-M 90, or, even more useful to me, that rainbow flare with my Re-Edition Steel Rim 35. Having said that, well, yes, a significant reason for me to add an SL-series camera would be to use it with at least one “halo” L-mount lens, such as the APO Summicron SL 35. An APO Summicron SL 35, plus a pre-owned SL-series camera, would probably cost less than an APO Summicron-M 35 ASPH, and would, absolutely, be better-corrected, optically. (My eyes and brain tend to “see” landscapes at ~35mm.)
This does not mean that I actually will acquire an SL-series camera. It is possible, not probable, at this point in time.

You know, not specific to SL3, but generally with cameras - we've lost a lot with the general death of text blog format / magazine professional reviews of cameras. We used to get numerical scores by sub-category and direct side-by-side.
Now with the ad market driven move to YouTube format reviews, all we get are these content creating hobbyists getting press cameras they .. somehow always love. When was the last time you actually saw a negative Youtube camera review? I struggle to read between the lines and get a list of genuine cons from many of these "reviewers".

It has been all adjusted to lower attention spans with video centricity. Not only visible on YouTube/TikTok obviously but also on IG for example which became very video-centric, too. I am missing nice camera and lens review articles including scoring formerly for example published by dpreview. Most video reviews are superficial and posted only after a very short time of using the equipment to get more views reporting about novel photo gear.
Most YouTubers are either brand-associates - meaning working for a camera brand - or influencers by showcasing gear from brand(s) which they get free to test and sometimes even keep. The latter is how companies "buy" often influencers to gain positive reviews. Hard to find now videos of posters who purposely shine away from getting sucked into any of these and remain independent. The ones I follow here have fewer amount of followers of less than 5K. They are less attractive for brands due to being below a needed threshold of followers to get gear sent etc. I have seen some of them getting more followers, and then they were also sucked into the brand influencer stream.

Even reading Jono's review...
it sounds like SL3 Autofocus is step up from SL2, but if you are going to shoot a lot of action.. you are probably going to be a bit disappointed.
