If you don't see the benefit of this camera it is not for you, it is that simple. It is not a camera for the masses but for some niche applications this is basically a game changer and easily worth the price.
People are complaining that Sony has ignored a large market segment who wants an updated stacked sensor camera at usd4k price point.

Admittedly its difficult to tell what the exact frame rate is on the A1, but on the A7iv its more obvious
The EXIF contains the shooting time with millisecond accuracy. You can see this info e.g. using RawDigger or FastRawViewer. They have a trial period.

I don't understand what you mean. I thought this was the best commentary so far on where this camera fits for real situations. He gives Sony huge props for their innovation.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet. B&H lists the release date for the A9III and the VG-C5 battery grip as Feb 23, 2024.
Sony Japan lists the release date as Jan 26, 2024.
So I guess the groundhog isn't going to see its' shadow and "spring" is coming early this year
Looks to be identical to the lenses that support 30 FPS on the A1. The A9III has the same 120 AF/AE calculations per second as the A1, and Sony indicated that rate depended on the lens on previous cameras. The previous A9 models could do up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second depending on the lens.
The older lenses on this list noted with 2 have their apertures fixed at the first frame at 60 FPS or higher. Those lenses also don't support Silent Priority Aperture Drive in AF.
We probably can assume the four 20 FPS lenses and all the 15 FPS lenses still get limited to those same framerates.

He just can't help himself. A lot of YouTube photography personalities correctly feel a need to comment on the a9iii announcement, it is a before-and-after type of announcement. It will change the industry forever. It is like the release of ChatGPT, or Tesla, etc.
But poor Matt cannot help to deliver underhanded acknowledgments or compliments towards Sony. Of course, it is a niche product with those specs. You don't buy a Porsche GT3 to drive a family of 4 kids to school every day. And complaining about the $6,000 price tag when you are sitting with a $5,500 Nikon Z9 and $8,200 Hasselblad on the table is rich...
There is a reason I don't subscribe to his channel... (apart from I don't want to view nude women tied up in ropes being photographed in his apartment all day)

There is a reason that Sony has frozen him out, and won't even return his phone calls. He somehow earned it by his behaviour. No big deal in the broader scheme of things. There is room in the World for him, and the type of content he creates We should wish him luck.

I can't wait to see how Thom Hogan spins how this new technology is inferior to Nikon... probably along the same lines as the Sony AF system being too easy to use and Nikon is superior because it makes you really work hard to get comparable results.

Yep, here in Denmark the release is “end of January”, so the wait is not *that* long.

At the risk of overgeneralizing, my guess is a lot of those people would be well served with the Fuji X-H2s. I have used it extensively for sports in conjunction with the XF 200mm F/2 and it's fantastic. Do I prefer the files from any of my Sony FF bodies? Yes. But for the type of shooting that generally concerns stacked sensors, the X-H2s does great.

Agree with most of what you say, except that last line ..

So far he, the Nikon guy, and Petapixel (and maybe some others I haven't seen) have addressed the DR and ISO questions. He is correct in his assertion about R and D being recouped for the first adopters, driving future sales. But this really puts the heat on Canon and Nikon to up their games. If I can AT LEAST get a stacked sensor for the R5m2 I'll be happy for now.

Perverted Nikon guy, and Thom Hogan can't hold a candle when it comes to lying and bashing to Matt Irwin. Maybe the most dishonest guy in this business in my opinion.
He was more green with envy than his hat in this one.

yeah, I know, the last sentence was completely unnecessary. But I find it so strange with people's flipside - Matt's nudity stuff, Steve Huff and Ken Rockwell's UFO/paranormal explorations, etc.

This is funny because this exactly Sony technology will eventually end up in a Nikon camera simply because Nikon buy Sony sensors. No doubt Nikon will also add some "secret sauce" inside, like an 1lb piece of metal so the camera would feel ROCK SOLID
