I’m getting the vibe from this thread that some Nikon users are so hungry for an upgraded body that is not the Z8 that they are willing to put their money into an ergonomic disaster that is missing crucial control elements and buying into marketing hype. I have a feeling we will see a large number of sold-at-a-heavy-loss Zf bodies for sale in the next 6 months as people realize that it’s mostly decent hardware in a gimmick body, hardware that will be much more useful in the Z6iii body style.

The Zf at $1200 is much more appealing than

Took 12 months instead of the 6 as predicted, but I think we are seeing that $1200 price point proven out by the refurb sales and uptick in ZF shooting folks

I didn’t buy a refurb at the last sale, but on giving it more thought, I’ll probably get a second one if they come back at $1100-1200 over TG/Christmas, or wait a few months until they do. Its more than I need for my photography. I’ll put the CV APO 35 on one and the CV APO 50 on the other and be happy for a number of years.

Interesting approach to operating the zf, are more people who do this this way? never thought of it using the psam switch like that

He's not doing anything out of the ordinary there…I bounce between M and A like that a lot when shooting MF.

Is this why Fuji shooters don’t get PASM? It’s a different way of working…different rather than necessarily better or worse. I grew up with M and A using film so I find it natural.

Wondering if anyone has used any of the Tenba BYOB inserts (or any similar designs) for the ZF and which size is ideal for the body and 24-70 or 24-120? Is there one that would fit the 24-120 attached well? I like using my normal backpacks hiking rather than a camera bag but don't want to take the lens off every time I put it away. Looks like the BYOB 9 or 10 might be a good fit.

I ended up buying the smallrig after reading too much about the grip options. Seems there isn’t a silver bullet, yet.

Question.

Do I want a 40 SE for small/light travel/family stuff? Or do I just rock a 35 that I already own? I do love the look of that little 40. Good job, Nikon.

I have the 35 apo AND the 40/2. I bought the 40/2 just to have a 35ish lens with AF. I didn’t have 35 1.8 cash and I found the 40/2 like new here for $179 shipped. Kind of a no brainer. Not to mention it’s so compact for days when you need the smallest kit. ZF/40/small rig/wrist strap.

Yes, I have many years of experience with the Tenbas for this application.

Long answer, I made a video just on this:

Short answer, Tenba 10.

Same for me as NewYork. I currently have the Tamron 35mm 1.4 on the FTZ for occasional portraits, and the smaller options in this realm are 35mm f1.8S, 40mm f2 SE and the CV apo 35. The 35mm f1.8S will move on to a new home, the manual apo 35 I will enjoy for some time for the slow but better IQ stuff, and the 40mm SE is surprisingly very good as a small AF option and the reason why I'll sell the 1.8S. It's a fun little lens.

Cool video. I have a Tenba insert, but I've found that since it gets buried in the bag, I don't prefer it. Hiking, I mostly use Lowepro PhotoSport BP 24L AW III. It has a side access into the camera insert for quick access to lenses. It does fit a water bladder, but 3L sounds large bladder... I think what I would do is use my normal bladder (think it's 2L), and just have a water bottle. But it's large enough to carry a lunch, a jacket, camera accessories, etc. I'm a big fan of the Talon and Daylite Osprey bags for hiking, but I have stopped using inserts with them after using the Photosport.

What kind of daily mileage are you hiking with that bag, just out of curiosity, in terms of all day comfort.

I mostly hike 6-10 miles per day, but have gone up to 15 miles no problem.

Main thing is that the 24L is pretty small in terms of total space. Overall, doesn't quite feel like it holds as much volume as an Osprey Talon 22. The Ospreys also have good back panel mesh for breathability. However it is lighter than most camera backpacks, and that was my primary aim. The bag isn't adjustable for torso length either, so if you really need to rely on the hip strap for heavy loads, might want to make sure it fits well with your torso first.

The camera cube also is good for 1 mirrorless with a lens, +1 more small lens, and that's about it.

What microSD card do (if) you guys use for Zf?
Would this one be enough, speed wise?

I’m just using a 256 v30 which has been fine. I’m not high frame rate burst shooting with backup enabled though, just 5fps max with backup.

I use the same card in your link. 128gb. Works fine for casual use - I don't spray my shots but for a burst at 5fps for a couple of seconds it works ok and 128gb is plenty as my backup card

Here are my thoughts on the upcoming full-frame version of the Zfc:

Body Design:
Additional FN buttons and more premium materials are great ideas. Nikon might take inspiration not only from the FM2 but also from more classic models like the F2 or F3.

Sensor:
It’s likely to be the Z6 II or Z7 II sensor — both are great, so no major issues there. But a new sensor would also be interesting.

Autofocus:
It would be great if the improved algorithms and 3D tracking from the Z9/Z8 make their way to the Zf. However, the autofocus will probably stay similar to the Z6/Z7 II.

New FTZ Adapter:
A new adapter with additional functionality is unlikely, but a special edition to match the camera’s style could be possible.

New SE Lens:
A 50mm f/1.8S in the SE style would be a great addition, but it’s more likely we’ll see adapters or other minimalist solutions.

This camera will be an excellent choice for those who appreciate style and functionality, combining modern tech with retro aesthetics.

Nick.
