I was reading the Canon R5 firmware update rumor with interest and wonder if Sony was able to add the things rumored to be in the cards for Canon users, namely lens breathing correction, pre-shooting buffer, and vehicle tracking AF mode (bikes, trains & planes) among other things. Got me wondering how different the hardware and firmware architecture of the two cameras/brands actually is and to what extent that might dictate what can or cannot be added in firmware (and to what extent it's just about whether the company wants to add something or not).
Personally I couldn't care less about some of that stuff mentioned in the Canon rumor, but pre-shot buffer would be a game changer in some situations and would be an awesome addition to the A1. Then again, perhaps we should set our sights a bit lower and just hope for BEAF that actually works properly before adding planes, trains and automobiles into the mix

I was shooting an owl this afternoon and next to me were 6 folks from Quebec, 4 of them had the Z9 and the 800 PF. They saw my A1 and the 600 GM and we started chatting. They loved the pre-shot feature of the Z9.

I owned the Z9 along side my Alpha 1 for a year. Pre-shot is OK if you’re satisfied with JPEG. It would be much more useful if it supported RAW. Would also be nice if the Z9 supported 30 fps in RAW. The price of the Z 800 PF is very attractive if you can get your hands on one. 0ne of several reasons I gave up on it was the limited availability of key items. Took me four months to get the body, four months for the 100-400, then another three months for the 400/4.5 and never got a 800 PF. Glad over the year that I had my Sony A1 based kit to fall back on. Did also buy a used F mount 500/5.6E PF and that was a very nice lens. They all were if you could acquire one.

The A9 being 20fps in raw certainly doesn’t seem to hold those shooters back 🤔
Almost like if you can’t get it in 20fps, you’re probably not getting it regardless.
I said it was nice to have 30 fps RAW. Not a must have just like being able to shoot small 11 Pxel JPEG
Both are great cameras and have differing strengths. I think my biggest annoyance was the difficulty in getting certain focal length support even if I was willing to spend the money. It took me more than 9 months from when ias announced to getting the 100-400 in my hands. If I hadn’t learned about the excellent 500 PF and bought one I might have given up on it earlier.
A year latter I can easily recommend it but for me I had other priorities and decided to stick with Sony. I want a gripped and non-gripped system that are very close to each other and right now Sony provides that. I used to own a A9 but wanted a higher Mpixel camera, just a personal want, so I’ve stayed away from the Canon R3. I think I like Nikon’s Z lens line up better than the RF. Also a fan of the GM lenses.
Jared Polin’s latest video mentioned the rumor about an A1 firmware update. Along with a Canon R5 firmware update.
I don’t know whether there is a firmware update coming for the A1 or not. But Jared does have quite a large audience on YouTube. Maybe that will give a little extra nudge to Sony to release an update.
Nothing in it except the previously announced support for the new Creators' App. Sony had mentioned in the Creators' App announcement that there the 2.0 firmware would be released for the A7iv, and would contain support for the app.
There were folks saying that there was no way Sony would use a major version number (2.0) if it was only going to be a minor feature added, so they assumed that there would be other things like focus bracketing or whatever. But no, it's just the support for Creators' App. The major version number is probably because it breaks support for the (now becoming legacy) Imaging Edge software.
I think we can safely knock any expectation of a major update, with significant new features, to the A1 on the head now. We should also probably come to the realisation that SAR doesn't so much post rumours based on solid sources - more that it creates rumours based on pure speculation and whim.
And as for Jared Polin's influence on new firmware, a corporate behemoth like Sony isn't going to change its entire and very established firmware policy just because a YouTuber mentions it in a video.

Last night, March 8th, US time, I saw a post from the Chinese Weibo saying on March 9th (it was already March 9th their time), Sony will release FW 2.0 for the A7IV with such such features, I checked Sony Japan's website, nothing. Then this morning I saw it's on Sony's website, so I posted it on the new thread I started. Interesting though, this poster is the same poster that said some photographers were testing new FW for the A1 with features discussed in the last couple pages. Does that mean this poster has some credibility? I don't know, he did give the specific release date of the FW2.0 for the A7IV with no uncertainty before I saw it on Sony's websites.

I read that too and had similar thoughts as you. Weibo account/user 独立摄影师联合会 which my plug-in translates to: "Independent Photographers Association" I think this is the Independent Photographers Association SAR Admin may have been referring to for their A1 Firmware update rumor he discussed on his video about the same.
Personally, I'm not so inclined to dismiss the coming A1 firmware update rumor regardless of the source. I also read rumors as rumors and don't get bent out of shape when a rumor does not turn into reality or something less. It is what it is... a rumor.
In general there is IMO a credible potential the A1 will receive at least one more firmware update. What is actually contained in that update is yet to be seen.
My half-hearted A1 firmware update rumor vigil continues it just now includes scanning posts from 独立摄影师联合会 on Weibo.com 😉 No harm, no foul.
A7IV release notes only talk about giving it compatibility with the new online service.
If A1 only gets that, I'll be dissapointed.
SAR's latest YT vid says that source says the A1 FW is still a ways a way but is coming.
As always, I'll believe it when I see it....at least that same source accurately called the A7IV FW date...that gives a little hope his A1 rumour is correct.

Wait, now you have to go to SAR’s YouTube channel to get the rumors? What is that about? Does it feed him more money?
Anyway, thanks for doing one for the team and watching the YouTube… stream?

yt pays somewhere around $3 per thousand views, but since he's the master at affiliate marketing he's probably making more pimping camera gear on his yt channel.

Without the neural engine in hardware the A1 won't get the same autofocus as the A7r5 so it will only come with a hardware upgrade - aka A1ii.

I spoke with a Sony rep and he promised to deliver this request to Sony. Not sure if he did, and I frankly doubt they will ever make it... Still worth trying. What's funny - my $1350 Canon R7 has this feature but not the $6k+ A1.

Just signed! I'm a sceptic when it comes to these things, but maybe Sony will offer us something for current models -- jpgs only, like Nikon perhaps. I suspect it'll more likely be an A9iii feature this year and an A1ii feature next year. Not sure we'll ever see it on an A7 model because I doubt they have the required buffer processing capabilities that the high-speed bodies do.
