Nice barrel and hood design. I wish they could stick to a range of M lenses with a barrel designs like this and without the chrome rings, looks great. Now if they ever release a new 25mm f2 or f.14...

Would like to see an E-Mount Version of the 75 f1.9 - but it seems they forgot E-mount and have a run to release M-Mount and Z-Mount lenses ....

Closer focusing distance too according to the specs, 0.126m

Exciting. I really like the proposition of the Nokton. Light, fast with great optical performance at a nice focal length. I just think the rendering is slightly too harsh from what Iíve seen with rough bokeh (compared to the Summilux) and with a fair bit of mechanical vignetting. Also, the lens is quite ugly. I like the tonal softness of the Color Skopar more but itís flawed in its own ways and a bit slow on my M9.

This new Ultron is still ugly but hopefully it balances the modern rendering of the Nokton with the character of the Skopar. And itís lighter and still moderately fast to boot!

Really excited for the comparison.

Another interesting lens from Cosina. What a great company. The lenses they have produced over the past 10 years are nothing short of amazing. And they keep innovating and improving... Respect.

How is the bokeh in these samples "rough" in any way? Maybe the cat's eye highlights in the last sample? I'm not seeing it. In any case, a better comparison would be against the Leica 75 f/2 or the Lux stopped down to f/2.

From the limited samples the Ultron looks pretty smooth! I was referring to the Noktonís bokeh looking a bit rough.

Ah, that makes more sense. I need to read more carefully!

Yeah, the Nokton (75 1.5 for the person asking) is quite ugly, but also a bit longer than I'd prefer for a small 35/75 combo kit.

I'm interested. If they didn't take on a lot of distortion and/or field curvature to get it to that size, I'm very interested. I want to add a small, fast 35 and short tele to the mono rII kit, and the Nokton 75/1.5 has been in the lead for latter since I rented it, but smaller, lighter, and less expensive is a very attractive combo.

I donít think iíd be too interested, but this lens has me wondering if weíll ever see CV do a super speed 75mmó75 f1 or 1.. or 1.2. Something analogous to their new 50/1. They do love to re-iterate in certain classic RF FLís and this is one of those RFís. And the 35/50 slot is packed. A 75/1, 28/1.4 and 25/2 are seem possible for them.

Regardless, will be fun to try this new addition.

This lens looks like a really nice option. I may well sell my 35 f/1.7 Ultron for the 35 f/2.5 Skopar that I think would pair really well with this lens for a two lens kit. It will be interesting what CV will make next. I can never predict what they will do. I find it interesting they don't make an 18mm or a 24/25mm. They obviously can as they made the Zeiss ZM 18 f/4 which was a nice little lens and the even nicer Zeiss ZM 25 f/2.8. I used to wonder if they had an agreement with Zeiss not to make these focal lengths, but it would seem that any such agreement is long past.

CV has a nice set of lens but they could make quite a few more. Here are the one's that seem obvious to me:

18 f/4 Skopar
25 f/3.5 Skopar
25 f/1.4 Nokton
28 f/1.4 Nokton
28 f/3.5 Skopar
75 f/1.2 Nokton
75 f/2 APO Lanthar
75 f/2.5 Heliar (classic line with MC and SC coatings)
90 f/1.9 Ultron (a lot like this new lens)
90 f/1.5 Nokton
90 f/2 APO Lanthar
135 f/2.5 Skopar

Edit: and we might well see for mirrorless a new 180 f/4 APO Lanthar II, but I doubt we will see that Leica M mount. If they do make such a lens I hope they make it in Nikon F mount as they have a few lenses recently so it could at least be adapted to Leica M.

CV did make 25/4 Snapshot Skopar in LTM and Color-Skopar version of that in M earlier but those were discontinued later on. I had the Snapshot Skopar for a while but not anymore. They also had a prototype of 18/4 in LTM but it never made it to production for some reason.

I like the idea of a 90 APO Lanthar

I did know about the 25 f/4 Color-Skopar and have thought for a long time that we would get a 25 f/3.5 Skopar in Leica M mount, just as we had a 21 f/4 Color-Skopar and got a 21 f/3.5 Skopar. I expect that to happen at some point. The 18 f/4 prototype is intriguing. I think that would be a nice lens as well.

They kept the 25/4 VM in production from 2007 until 2016 so I think there is no deal with Zeiss that would block them from making & selling a 25mm if they saw the demand. It might just be that there was not enough demand for 25mm between the 21mm and 28mm options so they dropped it.

A 75mm is something I have been wanting to add. MFD at 0.5m, is that correct?
Currently sitting with a CV 40mm f1.2, and a niche CV 50mm f1. This 75mm would be welcomed.

Yes, the 0.5m close focusing distance is one of the highlight features of the new lens that they especially advertise. It's rangefinder coupled from 0.7m though as usual.

Biggest hole in the CV lineup is the 28 f/1.4 Nokton (MFD of 0.5m).

I hope they eventually do the entire line of APO Lanthar:

21 f/2 APO Lanthar
28 f/2 APO Lanthar
75 f/2 APO Lanthar
90 f/2 APO Lanthar
135 f/2 APO Lanthar

The front of the 18 prototype makes it look tiny, but the depth of the rear cap makes me think quite a bit extends into the camera. The steep angles of incidence probably make it a "best on film" lens.
