maybe i just keep both gf45 and astr, both are diff form factors
Ooof. I'd expect the 24 to pull up the 28. I mean, the closest set.
Most 40mm lenses - actually all of them apart from this one - pull up the 50 set.
I prefer the 50 set, as I frame for 50 and assume it will give me some more. Some people like the 35 set w a 40mm lens, but from my tests on a digital M, it is narrower than that.

I think it's closer to the 50 too. I think for careful RF 50 would make more sense so you have headroom like you said.
I don't even use the framelines, I use the pre-imagiparallax for framing and just my left eye for the RF focus, speaking of which is there a way to turn framelines off without disassembly? lol

Err, I have not come across any way to disable frame lines. In my camera (M240), I can only change between white and red. There is no off since it would defeat the expected purpose of an M series OVF.

24mm: just use the full area of the OVF and ignore the frame lines? Since 50/75 is pulled up, that leaves the whole outer area free of frame line clutter.

Front diameter of that hood looks larger than 37mm, so wondering if just a straight 46mm tube/hood wouldn't do the same? Most such hoods I've found usually step up to the next largest filter size at the front, so in this case 49mm. To keep it at 46mm you'd probably do a 46-43 step down, then get a 43mm straight hood with a 46mm front diameter.
In any case, it's good news that the hood helps with side lighting induced flare.
I'm curious, since the 40mm has mini-MF coverage, is there any wide open vignetting falloff on 24x36mm? Looks minimal on the GFX.

I agree they could have made the 40mm smaller in diameter, but perhaps they went with 46mm since it's the most common Leica filter size and most M users will have filters in that size. But they could have gone to 39mm, which is also a standard Leica filter size.

this lens is definitely a winner, some people not like the fast focus ring, but it's perfect for me on the m, cause it flashes the RF square back into view quickly regardless of previous position. it has the monochrome aesthetic as well without the price tag lol
if they refined the design a little, it would sell like hotcakes
if i get in the mood ill buy the 24 6.3 again, but i just ordered the cv 21 1.4 again so wont be for a while i think

it's dual-purpose for me since I use both Leica RF and GFX. i would use GF50 on GFX but it's nice having a tiny MF backup (and it's more fun)
the 40mm is also 40mm vs 50mm, only 200-250 usd brand new, and much smaller than the gf50 as well.

alright so it does help quite a bit, but for max angle protection, just get a longer tube hood lol. this tapered hood with no vents looks good on the m10m and works for me ergos wise so ill be keeping this setup. haven't checked for coverage on gfx yet with this
Total shipped to California including tax was only $170!
Will update when I get it like a month later lol, curious to see if there is copy variance in optics and build quality (helicoids and RF calibration). But I actually expect it to be fairly good.
I can use this 40 on my three systems (Leica M, GFX, and DJI), so this time I will be keeping it if the copy is good.
