another few shots with the A7CR/techart - set to animal focus. Focus achieved rapidly and accurately.

first is 35 APO, f2, ISO 10000
second and third: 50/1.4 asph, f1.4, ISO 1600

I've noticed that the techart focuses best with lenses no longer than 40mm. When I attach one of my 50mm lenses, the techart hunts a fair bit to acquire focus.

I didn't want to repeat what's already been mentioned earlier, but that’s the reason why:

Fred thanks again for the advice. I just tried the techart/A7RV with my 50 asph, this time had no problem grabbing focus. I found I got best results when I did a quick, gross adjustment with focus tab and then half pressed the shutter, and then Sony's eye focus quickly and accurately grabbed focus on the eye. Here are 2 examples:

I have been using my revived adapter here and there. Doesn’t work well with my CV 35/1.7 or 35/2 Ultron but it does work quite well with my Noct 50/1 v2. Really great to have eye-af on the Noct

I also enjoy using it with my Noct 50/1, though I'm always cautious about the lens weight. Most of the time, I support the lens rather than the camera when using this adapter. It doesn't make a huge difference...the lens weighs about 600 grams, while my A7CR with battery is around 520 grams.

I haven't seen much talk about this specific device os the A7V, but documenting here that the LM-EA9 definitely does not work properly on my A7V. With a variety of M-mount glass that I have. I know the Phoblographer mentioned it in an article, but figured I'd put my experience here and also if firmware changes this going forward, it works as a spot for any updates or advice. This is with the most up-to-date firmware (v1.8.0) installed.

About 80-90% unresponsiveness from the camera with the LM-EA9 with a variety of lenses, in both AF-S and AF-C modes. Pushing the shutter button most of the time has no haptics response (it's a damp pressure, no clickiness). Doesn't even hunt for focus. Some times it hunts for focus a little and gives up. Sometimes it takes photos without bothering with focus. And sometimes it finds focus and works properly for most but not all shots.

Sent a request for info to Techart, haven't heard back and afaik they don't have a blog or place where they post news or updates. I know other manufacturers are paying attention and updating where they can to fix any issues. Again, this is just a placeholder in case anyone notices a firmware update or hears something to let people know an update/fix is coming.

Sorry to hear about the A7V.

Got the A7C and acquired the LMEA9 recently. Quite happy, works with the 7A 28mm F1.4, Brighting Star 28mm F2.8, VM Nokton Classic 35mm F1.5, Jupiter 3 50mm F1.5. Havent tested the Elmarit 90mm yet. Shot below is with the 28mm F1.4

this morning I picked up my techart and Kolari modified A7CR that I haven't used in ages. I put on it my newly acquired M - Voigt 40/1.2 version 2, and was happily shocked how well and quickly the camera auto focused this manual focus lens. Here are some of the pics, most shot wide open at f1.2:

Imagine if Leica made an autofocus M‑adapter for their SL line...the community would lose it, thinking Leica had pulled off something incredible, letting all their M lenses autofocus and focus closer!! Well, that's basically what you've done, but even better, since your A7CR is modified to match the Leica M sensor stack perfectly and it's a super compact and light camera. Honestly, a modified 61MP A7CR with IBIS, capable of adapting M lenses with close-focusing and AF, is probably one of the most undervalued, almost secret setups out there...

I would like to try a Kolari modified A7CR with the Techart but in UE is almost impossible to find a modified camera.

The LM-EA9 works fine on my A7RV and A1 (not the same model as yours, I know....but should be similar enough)......WHEN it works.....
In my experience it is more the adapter that is faulty, not the camera......I am on my third copy of the adapter, the first stopped working completely after 2-3 months, the second totally bricked my camera after a few months, the third copy I have now finally works well and for what it is I am quite happy with it.
Also the focus area mode a will make quite a difference as well.....zone focus, center fix, spot, etc. all react differently with different lenses.....some lenses work better with zone focus mode, some with spot and so on.....needs a lot of experimenting.
And different lense work better than others.....my Summicron 50 (v5) is awesome with the adapter, while my Voigtlander Ultron 28 & 35mm dont play nice at all with it.
Most lenses work well at infinity focus (as recommneded by Techart), but other lenses work better at other focus distances....again, lots of experimenting is required.
In my experience (with about 15-20 different lenses) it is a whole rabbit hole, but when it works it is an awesome experience and i am quite happy with it.....but it is definitely not a set & forget experience....your mileage may vary.
And Techart unfortunately is infamous for not providing any support or feedback at all, which really sucks since it is not cheap and potentially such a great product....

taking that a step further, why can't Leica produce a Q3/Q343 with ability to change M lenses? Ok so the Q's don't have the world class tracking AF like my Sony, but I bet that would be just fine with Leica users.

this is too much fun.
I put my Leica Summilux 50/1.4. pre asph version 2 M lens on my Kolari modified Sony A7CR via the Techart adapter so that I can take it out for a shoot tomorrow.

Here's a single test shot I just snapped with this setup, aperture wide open at f1.2. Observations:

First, I had the camera about 8 inches from the stack of clothes, even though on my M cameras the minimum focus distance of this lens is 1M. Second, the camera acquired focus INSTANTLY, literally no delay whatsoever. I'm amazed.

here's one more with the same combo. Not only does the Techart auto focus this manual vintage lens, but it grabbed eye focus.

At f/1.2? You're really getting carried away with enthusiasm now.😄
But it's wonderful to witness someone's happiness. Enjoy it!👍🏻

I have tried mine on v1.8.0 briefly with A7V on 1.01 firmware. All focusing modes work fine. What was the furthest version on your A7V?

today not a good day for the Sony/Techart. I went out in bright sunshine with my Summilux 50/1.4 pre asph attached. I found it wouldn't grab any focus, didn't even hunt - it was just dead, until I stopped down to f11. And when it did think it was grabbing focus at f11, all the images close to infinity were out of focus.

A couple of weeks ago when I used my Voigtlander 40/1.2, I didn't seem to have that problem, so I don't know if the issue is bright sunshine, choice of lens or just that the techart was having a bad day.
