Shot a cyclocross race in the Wawayanda State Park in NJ on this past Sunday and shooting the Nikon 70-200 f2.8s the first time. I thought my keeper rate was high with the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 OS Sport. With the Nikon? Is like 98% and shot the entire race at f2.8! And with a back lit sun no less....
With a 50 f1.8s at F2. A lens I don't often use it enough and on a Z9, the AF is fast...surprisingly...

It was a long path to get here, but finally an Z9 owner! Blown away by animal tracking. Still have a lot of fine tuning and muscle memory to develop but, wow - was able to rip many keepers on my dog’s eye running full tilt at me first attempt (FW 3.0, AF Area Wide, Animal Tracking, Manual+AutoISO).
BTW, what’s up with Lr? I don’t use it much, but made the mistake of looking at the files there first before updating Capture One to its latest version. Lr files looked like greasy noisy crap worse than images from a disposable cardboard camera. I just about had a heart attack. Thank goodness for Capture One. Much better RAW interpretation of these NEFs.
Really like the camera’s haptics and ergonomics. The flagship cameras I’ve owned since I started shooting SLRs were Nikon F4, Canon 1DX, GFX 100. This is my favorite already and I’ve only owned it for 10 hours.

Must be the case. Don’t want to derail a Z9 discussion thread on Lr, but I didn’t change my configuration and have processed a large number of Z7 raw files (and S1R) without issue. That’s why my heart sank seeing what Lr delivered. I thought maybe I had a defective sensor or other hardware issue. I’ll get it figured out. I’m mainly a C1 user, but sometimes work in Lr and Ps as part of a procedure taught by Mark Metternich for very large print making. So I’m in no rush. Not gonna make a 9’ print of Smokey the corgi.

You clearly have LR misconfigured.

I was passing time in the back yard this morning, waiting on the rain to come & go so I played with 3D & AutoArea with this sparrow as he ran around in the grass. I have to say, tracking worked quite well as the subject went in & out of view.
Last shot was a custom WA set down to the size of Single-Point (sure makes the Lincoln's Sparrow look big).

On my way to the park this morning I decided to try a few different spots along the way and got these, something I don't do too often! Z9, 24-120f4, both hand held.

Try importing NEF files into Lightroom with 'Adobe Standard' profile & use it as a starting point of your edits. If you let LR use the camera profiles the files can look like garbage. (Edit -> Preferences -> Presets tab (RAW defaults section)).
