Let's see. Probably brought up the shadows/exposure a tad and this isn't even in remotely good light since I think the raw looked like a shadow mess and I don't run my images through topaz denoise. This is actually a lot better than I was expecting since a lot of detail isn't that soft. Also I'm quite sure I didn't crop. I don't crank the NR slider in post. sjms wrote:
you should not be getting that level of noise at 25k with proper post NR

neither do i. i don't use topaz i find it to be less than promised tool. it is a constant work in progress development-wise
there is a time and place for things. i try to be subtle using it. i tend to overexpose a bit and then pull it back. after that it's an appropriate dash of NR. i either use DXO or Neat Image.
believe me i know nobody's perfect all of the time. been there done that.

Considering that I was trying to account for the reciprocal rule and the raccoon movement I was basically at the mercy of fading light so I really couldn't over expose. This is the image, this is what I got, this is what the noise gave me. That's it. sjms wrote:

Few more from this past Wednesday...
Z9+Sigma 70-200 sport + 1.4x converter...shooting swimmers in open water is still challenging due to the nature of the sport.
Sigma 70-200 sport at 2.8.
With 85s...I always thought the 85s isn't fast enough for faster subjects and can't focus well when the subject is too close. Well, I was wrong...not on the Z9...

Came across this nicely shape rock right at the waters edge at a beach about 1/5 hours south of where I live. It was a big surf and the water and foam draining off the top of the rock reminded me of melting frosting on a cake.

Just got mine today and trying to wade through the rather substantial manual. For those of you who've had theirs for a while: is "auto" good enough for subject detection when shooting birds or should I explicitly set it to "animals"?

For the most part I use auto with no issues. On occasion I will change it to the specific subject detect so it doesn't move off what I am shooting (e.g. surfers I am shooting are in the foreground but birds are moving around in the background or vise-versa).
