Good example of what is Z9 possible - Wide C1 AF, car subject detection, panning, slow shutter speed, the much hated AF-S 200-400mm lens on FTZ2, monopod. In the hi-res you can clearly see details in the pop rivets holding the side mirror to the door.

Nothing beats seeing some hooters first thing in the morning……. I saw 3 different Barred Owls this morning while out taking deer photos. Even got some photos of one of them eating a crawfish. Taken with the z9 and 400mm f2.8 fl.

Some shots from this weekend in eastern NC
All with the 500pf
The canine is a Red Wolf (endangered, 1 of ~25 or so in the wild, I also got 2 -bad- shots of one of the six puppies that was part of the first litter born in the wild since 2018)

Wow! He’s back! Wondering today where you went to.
Super wildlife photography you have here!
What is the story on that adult bear looking down at you? So, you are photographing cubs at fairly close and the mother is just ok with you fooling with her cubs? Or is that not the mother?

That’s a Cottonmouth!
Welcome back!
It’s been tough sledding at my usual spot the last month or so (really the whole year there has seemed down other than a few things), so I didn’t really have anything worth sharing lol.
The place I went this weekend is 4-5hrs away and this was my 1st trip back since February.
The mom and cub were close, but calm, plus there was a ~5-10ft deep x 10ft wide farm ditch/canal between us, plus hundreds of acres of corn/soybean to eat from so they are generally “fat and happy” out there. I didn’t know they were there at first. Saw the cub sleeping as I was walking past the tree (but it looked bigger at first, like a 2nd year cub on its own}. But mom at that time must have been laying in the tall grass beside the tree, heard me and she let me know she was there (broke a stick when she got up, then stood against the tree), so I just slowly back up about 10ft (was walking parallel to the tree line, so about 25ft from that tree, and when we made eye contact I walked 10ft directly away/perpendicular from the tree line) and then she climbs up and lets me watch/photograph them until I got tired of it and left (had to hit the road anyway).
Out there at least, the moms will let you know where “the line” is. A little different for each one, some won’t even let you know they are there and then you’ll end up seeing it 15yds away tucked under a tree branch just quietly observing you as you walk past. Some will walk out in front of you 50yds before you get there and make their presence known, etc.

I am sure most of us envy the interesting interactions you have with Black Bears (I know I do).
It's been a constant drought here. Light showers today but not nearly enough to even begin to rehydrate the soils. I have been spending much time watering (to try to keep up with the drought) the small wildflower meadow. We need a steady rain event here in Maine. And the existing herbaceous wildflowers I need (for Monarchs and other species) have already been shocked enough that they lost their flowers. Even if/when we get significant rain this summer, my Milkweeds are not going to re-flower again in 2022. Will have to wait until next year... again.
Still doing my circuit on the loon ponds of my boyhood.
