I didn't really find the answer but can the Z9 take the FTZ I or does the bottom mount hit?
Both FTZ adapters are identical from a functional perspective. The only reason the FTZII exists is because ergonomically, you cannot use the Z9 in vertical grip orientation with the FTZ as the collar blocks your fingers. So yes the original FTZ will work just fine, but if you use the vertical grip you are probably not going to like it.
There is a FW update as well for the original FTZ.

Ok. That's what I was wondering. I still have my original FTZ

Back from the road trip & just starting to process the images. I packed 14-30, 24-70, 70-200, 105 macro & 500 PF for this trip.
Z9's 'bulk' wasn't an issue anywhere I went. Mainly played with landscape, nature/wildlife & general vacation photos. I do realize that I could have taken similar photos with a Z7 but it was nice to have a more responsive body for some random animal encounters. More to come.

Snow melt is delayed this year, so I got lucky to have Eiffel Lake trail just to myself in the early morning (after mandatory Moraine Lake sunrise photos). Still - the parking lot at Moraine Lake was full at 5am the morning before = wake up before 4am to get there in time was mandatory.
