The more I use the Z9 for my business, the more I appreciate what this camera does. The extra frames per second, incredible eye focus and excellent color make my job easier.
From January to mid March, all of my assignments were indoors under varying lighting conditions and the Z9 performed admirably but now that all of my jobs are outdoors, the Z9 really shows what it is made of in bright sunshine to clouds to under the lights.
Being able to chose between several in-focus frames of any action sequence is so valuable when you can select between bat-on-ball, ball leaving hand, cleats touching bag or position of arms, legs, head and hands.

Killer set (above) Lee!
Along the lines of appreciation of what the camera does, these Eared Grebe sots had me laughing in amazement as I shot.
Wifey & I were driving along the Texas City Dike yesterday and saw this Grebe surfing 2'ish foot waves just along the rock line at the base of the Dike.
I pulled over and pointed my lens (500PF + 1.4x TC) at him with my default Wide Area Small w/ Animal Detection and it locked onto the eye like glue and never let go. This guy was literally all over the place but as long as I kept him in the frame, the Z9 was locked on the eye.

Awesome shot!!
+1
Hi Eric; I hope you will post more eagle shots taken with the 500PF and 1.4IIITC. This shot is perfect in every way!
Like you, I would rather crop than attach a TC. But others (George DeCamp especially) posted many exciting shots with this combo and spoke so highly of it.

I've found an issue with the Z9 AF.
As you can clearly see, the camera had focus on the head/eyes of this Red Headed Woodpecker....until it fired off a decoy/flare.

Just got the camera and going through the initial setup: charging battery, change all the menu settings, put back the playback button where it always should be, etc.
God, I spent 10 minutes scrolling through the menu looking for the shutter display/sound setting and I finally had to google it and found the menu guide on Youtube... they weren't kidding when you need to have a tutorial on menu settings even though I've been shooting Nikon since my D70s...

You've made the 200-500mm look great, Mark! Still trying to decide if I should keep mine or sell.
Thank you sir. I wish it was lighter and focused a bit faster but it's hard to complain for the price and optical quality you get. I'm going to replace it with the 100-400Z and either the Z200-600 or Z800PF a bit later on.

The main thing I find awkward about the 200-500 is the balance when handholding. The new 100-400 is just superb in that department, feels lighter than it is. I hope Nikon can pull off excellent balance on the 200-600.
