Well, that would be the trade off. I set mine to 30mins. I don’t have issue with battery life on this camera. YMMV.

I've left in on for a least 3hrs and about 1800 shots and had over 50% left but can't remember exact number.

Likewise on the alive and well! I've been trying to get Tom Hicks to pick his camera back up but he is dragging his feet. I only have one Z lens - 100-400mm - so far that lens is very sharp and fast. This body feels pretty good in the hand. My only real learning curve is getting used to the EVF as I am so used to looking through the lens to search for stuff instead of using binoculars. I'm used to leaving the camera off and using that lens like a spotting scope but now I have

Well Hot Damn!
I haven't seen the names Trey Neal or Tom Hicks in a long while... all we need is John McFadden, and the band will be back together

Good to see your input again Trey. I loved the 100-400S on my Z7II & Z6II bodies. This and the 70-200 f2.8S perform very differently than my F-mount glass on the Z cameras. I'm now wishing that I plunked down some money to pre-order a Z9, but will now wait until I see the demand fall.

Good to see your name on FM again.

Went for the 2nd round as it's going to be pouring rain for the next couple days.

Owl & harrier.

This AF feels like cheating.

You are welcome. From the looks of your images you can help others. To master the art of photography one has to always strive to get better no matter how long they have been at it....and with your attitude you are well on your way.

I got to try something a little different today. A buddy that regularly shoots dog events called, needing a shooter for one of his events today. I figured what a perfect test for the Z9. :-)

Having never tried this, I was nervous at first but I think it may have turned out OK.

These are a couple shots from my 1st 15 minutes onsite. The EV setting on these was a mistake (I bumped it on the Lens Control Ring) & I had ISO capped at 8000 so that's where it sat. I finally just set 8000 & left it with very few exceptions.

I am a bit surprised it's so clean at ISO 8000....

https://morboi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/NZ9_8713.jpg

Finally got a shot of Himalayan griffon vulture. Z9 with 600/4e FL + tC20e iii and heavy cropping a bit more than DX cropped.
Unfortunately there was so much heat distortion that if the vulture was not directly overhead, the pictures
were not really usable.

PS Himalayan griffon vulture has a wingspan as wide as 3 meters. It is the second largest vulture in Asia . This one is easily more than twice as big as black kites that were flying around the same area to give you some idea of how far the vulture was.

Looks very good especially when you consider you used a TC2.0 as well!!

I was never happy with TC2.0 when used wiht D6 or D850 in the past with either 500/4e FL or 600/4e FL.
For some reasons, it just seemed to work better with Z9. I did calibrate all my TC with superteles on D6 and D850 but may be single distance calibration is just not good enough.

However, this is still an area where Sony has an edge. Compared to my friend's 600GM and TCx2, I think the Sony picture is sharper still. Can't wait to see how the Z mount supertele with Z mount TC will perform together. I am sure it will be great as the TC works with 100-400 better than I expected ( basing my expectation on past F mount TC experience).

Picked up Geoff's Z9 & 500PF today. Here's a couple of shots with that combo (+ more on my flickr with exif). Taking into account that I didn't setup the camera fully yet (5 mins in the parking lot) + never shot with anything longer than 400mm + never really shot birds before.... I'm pleased how it works. Muscle memory is still not there (I never shot a gripped body before either). 500pf is 5.6 so needs quite a lot of light of course.

Also a couple dog shots (70-200 would probably be better suited for this) - I literally have

You know we need a 120 fps sequence of Bruce jumping over something, right? Right?

Seriously though....glad you got the combo, hoping to get a Z9 to test locally as well, but might wait for a non gripped version.

Yep the mirrorless cameras have way more focus points to work with than the F-mount so they actually focus!

I'll be getting the 400/2.8S in another month or so. The TC2X on the new 400 should work like a 1.4 works on a f4 lens or at least close! I'm so looking forward to having that lens where I normally go. I could really use a 400 many times there and for hummingbirds in my back yard. This will be a bonanza for me from 400 and up and only 6.5 pounds!
