Set up a blind where I have been seeing this small black bear in our meadow. Showed up about 45 minutes before sunset. Probably a two year old, and about 100 lbs. Z9, 100-400mm at 400, 1/200s handheld, f5.6, ISO 2200. I had been shooting some birds earlier and using the DX mode, and forgot to switch back to FX, so effectively 600mm, no post cropping.

Nice shot... great eye-contact. Hidden in a blind or not, it looks like you've been smelled...

For sure! He/she was just approaching on the shot and was wary, but did settle down for another minute or so, then some deer showed up and just watched him for a minute before he just ambled off. Fun to watch. I think the deer were so relieved the bear left, they hung out for a while. Here is one of the deer that showed up. Somewhat rare "Piebald" doe. They are still shedding out from the Winter.

That's a real pretty image and I agree the 100-400 is really good for this type of photography! I also used it with a TC1.4X so I could get closer!
Thanks George! I will try it with the 1.4x next time, loved the flower shots you posted.
I am shocked how sharp this lens is for close-up work, and the stabilization combined with the Z9 Ibis is just unreal, better than when using the Z 105 macro.
