I’ve been popping off shots around my home with the new 100-400 on a Z7 and getting tack sharp images at 1/60th, 400mm wide open. And to think the Z9 IBIS/VR combo is rated even higher. Pretty happy with what I’m seeing. Need to create a trip into the field to truly test and make real images.

Awesome! Nikon says 6 stops of stabilization using synchro VR.

Here's a few more examples from the last couple of days. I'm not a bird photographer but thought I'd head to the shore this morning to just play around with the lens. The duck was about 100 yards away and was moving fast! I made a 100% crop for the example. The gull was about 25 yards away and I held the camera low at ground level and got a pretty sharp shot.
I shot the lobster boats and sunrise yesterday morning. The lobster boats were just a handheld shot at 1/30s. I didn't do that on purpose, I was walking back to the car with frozen hands from taking sunrise photos and didn't adjust the aperture. The sunrise photo was a lucky shot...it was a pretty bland sunrise yesterday and I don't normally zoom in at 400mm for sunrises!
So far, I'm quite pleased with this lens. All shots were taken with the Nikon Z7ii.
Soltice Sunrise 1/1600s, F16, ISO64 400mm on tripod cropped about 50%
Lobster Boats 1/30s, f/16, ISO64 195mm handheld no crop
Duck 1/1250s, f5.6, ISO 1250 400mm 100% crop handheld

If anyone has an image taken with this lens that is in-focus and taken at an appropriate shutter speed and aperture, now would be a good time to share it.

Weather just has not been cooperating for me since I picked this lens up so no good real world shots from me yet. Here is an example with the 2.0tc attached 1/25 iso6400 510mm.

Go buy one and post some of your own, but until then you’ll have to suffer through ours.

Random mallards at my pond. It was very overcast this day and still produces very nice colors. This is full res uncropped image. Might need to download to see highest resolution

I don't see many good examples so far and yet .. some are saying they see tack sharp images.
Are we all going crazy like one of those viral memes where half the internet sees a blue and black dress
while the other sees gold and something?
