Agreed, the main issue with the Tarmon for me is that it takes away much of the incentive to use primes...
I second this. This is my main issue with the lens. I find hard to justify owning 35 GM as 35mm f/2 on Tamron is as good as the GM for me, but at the same time I can't bring myself to sell the GM as I love shooting 35mm and 35 GM is a perfect lens (weight, size, IQ, etc) for the Sony system.
I know I have too many lenses. Once a lens goes into my dry cabinet, it doesn't come out for months and I keep shooting with my other lenses. For a while I was using the Tamron for everything. For the past couple of months I have been just using primes. Tamron is the only zoom lens I have owned that I love as much as my primes.

I simply enjoy the flexibility that this lens offers without sacrificing quality. Just came back from a 3 week vacation back home and even though I had most of my lenses with me the 35-150 was used the most, hands down.

Last Sunday, by chance, I saw the exhibition of Tatsuya Tanaka photography. Tanaka-san is a Japanese miniature photographer (https://miniature-calendar.com). The exibition had many of his works, alongside some of the original miniature compositions. Photography was encouraged, and I naturally had my camera with me, thus I took a few pictures of Tanaka-san's model sets. Perhaps, these can be of interest to some FMers.
Unfortunately, the light in the exhibition hall was not ideal, the models were behind glass, and I had to do all my shooting hand-held at rather low SS. Well, taking the pictures was much fun anyways.

yet another illustration of the useful range of this lens
No doubt about that.
I was happy to carry 2kg in hand all day on my leisure trips in times of DSLR. Not as fun anymore when I know I can get away with my iPhone.
Happy for the ones who are still prepared to deal with bulk and heavy.
To have 35@2 and [email protected] at the same is incredible.
I have an impression that the colors from the lens not as reach as from other latest GM level glass?

I recently shot an event (volunteer) with two A1's. I mostly shot with the 35-150mm, but had the GM 24-70mm f2.8 II on the second body, since I needed 24mm for some shots. I cannot tell any difference in color between the two lenses (or any other optical metric, for that matter).

An iPhone can probably replace a FF camera in the 24 - 50 mm range, with the apertures ranging from F8 to F16. For photography outside these ranges, one cannot get away with an iPhone. There are simply no existing equivalents to, for example, a FF 150 mm f2.8 lens (not considering medium format systems). My understanding is that all proponents of compact and light camera systems are probably doing most shooting in the 20 - 85 mm range, where indeed one can use light and compact primes. Outside 100 mm (e.g. 135, 200, 400, 600 mm), the notion of light and compact becomes relative - there are no truly light and compact fast lenses in that range. This is physically impossible. A 2 kg camera system in that range is perfectly normal. While hiking or travelling in general, I usually carry a backpack with some non-photography stuff. I can be more bothered by the backpack, especially when it is hot and humid, than by the holster with the 2 kg A1&Tamron 35-150 by my side.

I just purchased Samyang 135 f/1.8 at an amazing price and I am finding it hard to justify my purchase, even at a hugely discounted price, when I already have the 35-150. Anyone has a 135mm (or another similar tele prime) lens in this range? Do you use both?

First, my disclaimer - I seem to be able to rationalize a lot of seemingly overlapping lenses, like having both the GM 35mm f1.4 & Sigma 35mm f1.2, Tamron 35-150mm & GM 70-200mm f2.8 II (and GM 24-70mm f2.8 II), PZ 16-35mm f4 & GM 12-24mm f2.8, so having the 35-150mm & Samyang 135mm f1.8 seems quite natural for me.
I like the rendering I get from the 135mm for portraits a bit better than the zoom. I also prefer it for lower light. The size and weight, of this Samyang, are really appreciated when I want to travel with one of my smaller camera bags. The sharpness is also fairly amazing and allows for cropping.
