Re: Tamron 35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD Image Thread

When I purchased my GM 50 f1.2, I expected an outstanding lens and that is what I got. When I purchased the Tamron 35-150mm lens, I expected a really good zoom, but what I got was an outstanding lens. The sharpness and contrast from this versatile optic are just amazing.

Yesterday, I attended a Renaissance Festival. It was bright mid-day sun and what shade there was mostly yielded 'dappled' light. I normally would not even bother taking my camera out under these circumstances (unless I had my 600WS strobes to overpower the sun), but I took some shots as I was anxious to test this lens. The shots, below, are 100% crops of the eyes, since I would be embarrassed to show the (already deleted) full-body shot(s).

For portraits, I normally use primes such as the GM135mm, 105mm f1.4 ART, GM 50mm f1.4, GM 35mm and Sigma 85mm f1.4 DN. I am not saying that this zoom can exactly replicate the best of those lenses in terms of contrast/sharpness, but I must say it is really, really close and it would take extreme scrutiny on my 5K, 27" monitor to see the difference. I couldn't be more pleased and this lens will make a great street/travel lens, combined with a wide-angle.

One thing that really impressed me was the contrast. It is far better than the old GM 70-200mm f2.8 that I had.

I shot these on my A7RIV, as I wanted to see what 225mm crops would be like (they are great). Since I do not shoot a lot of sports and do not need the quad linear focus motors of the new, ultra-sharp, GM 70-200mm f2.8 II, I cancelled my pre-order. I shot a sequence of someone running directly toward me with the Tamron lens and every frame was in perfect focus. I typically use my fast focusing GM 135mm f1.8 (or GM 100-400mm) for sports, anyway, with the A1.

The following are 100% crops of RAW files directly from ACR with no additional sharpening applied:
