Especially looking at the comparison pictures you can really see how Tamron cleared up their act when it comes to the bokeh. It really is night and day.

I enjoy reviews from Arthur. He gets excited by things on the lower, but more practical end. To some extent I think of the 28-75 as a Toyota Corolla. Practical, gets the job done and easy on the wallet.

Arthur said he will not be sending the demo copy back, he plans to buy it.

Can someone please explain why YouTube and the usual outlets are peppered with reviews of the new Tamron 28-75mm G2 as well as comparisons between the G2 version and Tamron’s original version and even the Sigma 24-70 DG DN . . . but no one I can find has put together a thorough comparison between this new Tamron and its most obvious competitor, the Sigma 28-70 DG DN Contemporary?

(Before replying, please note I am looking for comparisons to the Sigma 28-70, not the Sigma 24-70.)

The video linked above is especially strange. In a previous video earlier this year, Arthur R compared the then-new Sigma 28-70 to the first-version Tamron 24-75 and said he preferred the Sigma and would be keeping it. Now a new version of the Tamron comes out and his comparison isn’t between the new lens and his declared favorite in this category but only between the two Tamrons. He even goes so far as to mention “all” the competitors in his summary: The Sony 24-70 GM and the Sigma 24-70. Why does he leave out the Sigma 28-70?

My best guess-explanation for this reviewer and others is that Tamron put conditions on the G2s it sent out to reviewers, somehow restricting their ability to even *mention* its direct competition. If so, bravo for their marketing department, but I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that more reviewers didn’t hold out just a bit to make a much-desired comparison on their own terms. Readers and viewers would have appreciated it — more, I think.

Apologies if I’ve missed any 1:1 Tamron G2 vs Sigma 28-70 direct comparisons. Send them my way!

Small channels don’t get pushed. Check back in a few weeks, doing a comparison, the tamron is sharper and better bokeh from my initial look

Tamron puts no restrictions

These YouTubers do what they suspect gets them views and their audience cares for. They follow the analytics, the sigma is not a popular lens, not some big conspiracy

morris e, You're right: Tamron 28-75mm Di III VXD G2 vs. Sigma 28-70mm DG DN would be the most logical comparison. It seems that no one has done it yet.

This is in French, it has some pictures to compare, I have no idea what is said in the conclusion.

That's a good comparison. It seems that the Tamron is a little sharper, while the Sigma's bokeh is smoother (less soap-bubbly). The Tamron offers the usb-c port for some customizations, and bit more magnification at closest focus distance. The Sigma offers a more compact size & weight. The placement & direction of the zoom rings is different.

Dustin Abbott compared with the Sigma in his video. Overall, he prefers the Tamron.

Sigma bokeh in the review above looks noticeably smoother than than Tamron. That's def. a win for Sigma.

How is the zoom ring smoothness on the new lens? I have the original that I mainly use for video (gimbal) work and I find the "stickiness" of the zoom to be highly annoying. A smoother, less "frictiony" zoom ring would be highly desirable.

I've had both versions and the G2 zoom is noticeably smoother.

If I was to use a standard zoom, it will need to be wider like at least 24. For me starting at 28mm is in no man’s land.

That's assuming that you almost exclusively walk around with the 24-105 lens. But if you (and many people have wider lenses to supplement the 28mm) then it becomes a non-issue.
