I find myself shooting mostly portraits at 75, so really a non issue for me in that regard.

To be clear, I don't mean to imply the Tamron isn't capable of producing very good IQ even in the corners at normal print sizes. But I've been spoiled by the IQ of my 12-24GM, and was hoping to find a mid range zoom to approximately match that. I really wanted the Tamron to work in my kit because it's a great trade off of IQ, size/weight, and price.
My copy was weakest at 75mm too, but it was actually very good at 50mm already, more so I think than at the wide end.
Do you think your Tamron corners (and mid regions) at 28mm match the IQ of your Sigma 14-24 DN at 24mm?

Can someone please explain why YouTube and the usual outlets are peppered with reviews of the new Tamron 28-75mm G2 as well as comparisons between the G2 version and Tamron’s original version and even the Sigma 24-70 DG DN . . . but no one I can find has put together a thorough comparison between this new Tamron and its most obvious competitor, the Sigma 28-70 DG DN Contemporary?
(Before replying, please note I am looking for comparisons to the Sigma 28-70, not the Sigma 24-70.)
The video linked above is especially strange. In a previous video earlier this year, Arthur R compared the then-new Sigma 28-70 to the first-version Tamron 24-75 and said he preferred the Sigma and would be keeping it. Now a new version of the Tamron comes out and his comparison isn’t between the new lens and his declared favorite in this category but only between the two Tamrons. He even goes so far as to mention “all” the competitors in his summary: The Sony 24-70 GM and the Sigma 24-70. Why does he leave out the Sigma 28-70?
My best guess-explanation for this reviewer and others is that Tamron put conditions on the G2s it sent out to reviewers, somehow restricting their ability to even *mention* its direct competition. If so, bravo for their marketing department, but I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that more reviewers didn’t hold out just a bit to make a much-desired comparison on their own terms. Readers and viewers would have appreciated it — more, I think.
Apologies if I’ve missed any 1:1 Tamron G2 vs Sigma 28-70 direct comparisons. Send them my way!...Show more →
Following up on this months later for anyone catching up, there are now a few more direct comparisons of the Sigma 28-70 and the Tamron G2:
It looks as if the Tamron is a tiny bit better optically, especially for close-up subjects, while the Sigma is smaller and has the more convenient zoom ring.
Recently bought this lens from a forum member. I’ve been beyond thrilled with the results so far. Just finished using it on our first family vacation with our twins.
I got the lens and noticed the battery drain issue with my A7C. I have other Tamron lenses (28-200 and 150-500) and none of them have this issue. Firmware is updated.
I believe it is something that could be fixed via the firmware update, as Samyang 135/F1.8 had the same problem fixed by a firmware update.
