Edit- disregard. See below, learned something new.
Anyone having issues with the aperture not stopping down past 5.6? My z6ii says it continues to stop it down, but the diaphragm doesn’t get any smaller than where it is at 5.6. I bought direct from nikon as soon as it was released, and messaged them through my account on their site nearly two weeks ago, with no response. I basically always shoot at f2, so it took me a couple weeks to notice.
Very happy with the lens anyway. It’s a great walk around lens with the kids and day to day activities. Just annoyed that this seems defective.

Z mount lenses do stop down to at most f/5.6 or stay at the maximum aperture before taking the shot. They will stop down further in the process of taking the stop. Take an image at f/5.6 and at f/11 to check whether you get a different depth of field.
Z lenses only stop down past f/5.6 when shooting. Are you just looking or are pressing the shutter and it still won’t stop down further?

Ahhhhh, thank you both! I did not know that about the Z, sorry I recently switched from the D750. Just checked, yes it stops down when I activate the shutter.
I have not seen any examples posted in this thread using the lens on a Z fc so thought I would also post these here.
I wanted something faster than the slow kit lens and in the "normalish" range (60mm equivalent). I just picked up the lens yesterday and took it out for a walk late this afternoon.
For the price, I think this will be a keeper. I think it handles shooting into strong light very well. In the middle shot the sun was just out of the frame in the upper right.

That's a lovely, varied set George.
The Zfc+40mm must make for a nice compact setup.
I am off work next week so I hope to find some time to compare the 40/2 against my 50/2 HC.

Nice shots! I find the 60mm equiv. focal length to be quite nice to use.

Thanks! And as Colin mentioned above, it really is a super light and compact kit to carry. I agree with the 60mm fov. I use adapted 75mm the most on my GFX which also gives approx 60mm field of view.
So far I'm very impressed where I expected to not be. Anyone who says the this is not sharp enough has a bad case of pixel-peeping and not enough of a case of artistic beauty in their soul.
Can anyone post a set of photos taken at minimum focus at f 2.o, and f 2.8 please? This is now likely my next Nikon lens, based on what I've seen so far.
I might be mistaken but I think that SS shot highlights a wonderful quality to this lens, a more classic rendering in the OOF but just as sharp or sharper at the focus plane than a lot of the old classic lenses wide open. Or maybe it's just me.
Took this lens and my 24-200 on a short family vacation to Maui. Obviously a really easy kit to carry and both lenses did everything I expected. I came away really liking the 40, and feel the 24-200 is quite good in the 24-150 range but shows some weakness at 200mm. In my case, I may replace it with the 24-120/4 when it finally comes out --or not because the 200 is at least usable and maybe nice to have on occasion, we will see-- but for now this lens does what I need it to do and in a compact package.
I realize these are nothing special, just a variety of typical vacation grab shots to hopefully show how the lens performs in that situation. Processed from raws as shot SOOC in C1, exif shown on images -- and I'll put the 24-200 images in its own thread.
A string from the 40. Normal disclaimer that this site is not retina aware so these may appear at 200% size on some monitors -- they are all 2048px max resolution for reference:
