Comparing the 40 f/2 images to ones from a much more expensive lens, I am really disappointed.
They're all soft at f/2 on my z7ii, while the other lens (different brand, but it doesn't matter here) is sharp even at f/1.4.
I'll try the lens on my less demanding z6ii later today. If it's still soft, I will return it tomorrow.
It's not front or back focus, but just soft.
These were with the camera fully resting on the ground.

Nope, if you go to the images, some are f/2 and f/2.8, as well as f/8.
Nope, Even though you're telling me I'm wrong on a post from last summer the author confirms my comment.
Apology accepted
"DeltaSigma: You beat me to it - thanks!
The Z6ii is a fabulous sensor for hand-held low light work.
I let the ISO drift up to 3200 and then apply some noise rediction in Lightroom.
No I realized after you were talking about 2 pictures and I was looking at the whole gallery, where he went well beyond those two apertures with the lens.

What a cool little lens. I got mine today. I won’t subject you to pictures of my cat and I won’t put my family online, but I like the slightly soap-bubble bokeh and the way highlights become less circular towards the edge of the frame. It focuses quickly and smoothly, too.
Kids are off on a long spring break trip so my wife and I hopped on a plane to Austin. Not the right lens for the bats at Congress St bridge but lot of cropping helps.
I had this 40/2 a few years ago and didn’t connect with the focal length. Picked up another and took it out for a walk today and definitely enjoyed it.

Thank you all for sharing your photos! It’s really inspiring to see what this little lens is capable of.
Over the past year, I’ve been mostly using the Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f/1.2, and I absolutely adore it. My only real problem is that it doesn’t have autofocus. When it comes to capturing moving subjects, the Voigtländer isn’t the best choice.
Today, I revisited some older shots I took with the Nikon 40mm f/2 SE in Lisboa, and I was genuinely surprised by how impressive this little lens is. The way it renders images is beautiful, and in many situations, it’s not too far off from the Voigtländer.
So, this weekend, I’m bringing this little gem along to an event because I really need that autofocus. Plus, compared to the Voigtländer, it feels almost weightless. Aesthetically, though, I still have to hand it to the Voigtländer.

A few with the Zf. I like how the 40/2 SE renders for the most part...but the focal length just feels off for me. I'm more of a 50mm ~ 55mm guy. Needless to say, I didn't keep the lens.
