Sony shot in his foot. So bad.

If in october 2021 they release a camera that is hardly competitive with let's say a R6, sure that a year after here the competitors will be miles ahead from Sony. 10 fps with such a nice AF system, come on Sony!

They should have taken a coup de force like when they released the A7 III.

Time to wait for the A7 V.

Tell me what you shoot that 10fps would not able you to get the photo, but 20fps would. I find this race between Canon / Nikon and Sony with fps being the benchmark as a huge red herring for many photogs.

the E-shutter of the R6 has rolling shutter issues, a lot of the time, unusable. Heck, I cant even use the E-shutter of the siii much because it has the same issues, the 20 fps is a hype spec

Don’t care about the FPS for my purposes but this does feel kind of underwhelming for a portrait photographer. I guess the price will be more important for me now. Wasn’t a big issue before but now it feels like I might be hunting for a used 7RIV.

I wonder if the new dial style allows separate custom modes for video and stills?

it has to be, and would be a huge upgrade for me. The old dial is bad, especially if mounted on a tripod eye level, hate having to check what mode I'm in..... and the customizable wheel..... finally. I hate using SLOG because it kills my workflow switching back and forth with stills, with a custom video setting, I can simply set +1.7 over and be done. You could do this with the ZV-1, but a pain or not possible with a7 any version

Man, I hope they (SAR) just made a misprint but is this thing seriously going to be $2599? No bueno...

The R6 is still 12fps mech, so it has an advantage there still.

Hi Chez

Mainly bird action photography. I know you're going to tell me that I should go for an A1 or A9 II. But I am simply not going to invest a big sum for a leisure body. For my scheduled pro work I usually take an A7 RIII, but casually I like to shoot BIF for pleausre/relax. My other camera, an A7III, has an AF system that can't cope with this kind of demanding photography, so I was wishing a really good AF for the A7 IV (which is provided as I watched in the video).

I also wished some 15/20 fps bursts in ES mode, with blackout, of course, and with low rolling shutter effects (read-out sensor speed about 1/60). It should be noted that Canon does not cripple 20 fps ES in their R5 and R6 models. This is my main dissapointment with the A7 IV.

By the way, I've abandoned BIF photography for now, totally frustrated by the inability of my actual two Sony cameras. I hope you can understand the great expectations I had for the A7 IV.

Best

PS, Here I illustrate this demanding kind of photography

yes, there are tradeoffs

33 vs 20mp...... either way, unless there's a huge discrepancy between brands, not looking at canon stuff. if the camera cant record over 30 minutes video, if it cant take e-mount lenses, I'm not buying..... I really need a B-Cam

and I am liking the new body changes, kind of sad the siii and A1 dont have it.

Cache. It will work if you don't refresh.

IBIS is worse than the one in A7 III and IQ is pretty much the same (better colors on IV thou).

You can also download the video (A7 IV review by Northrup) : https://bit.ly/3lYJMZ9

And you take all that for gospel? Hardly any real tests, and people are already complaining? Comparing to a 20 MP R6?
A 1.17 time higher linear resolution won't make a night and day difference, but still gives you more pixels if you need them.
Has there been a DR and S/N measurement already? Nevertheless, the A73 still has one of the best sensors on the market (https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm#Canon%20EOS%20R6,Nikon%20Z%206,Nikon%20Z%206II,Nikon%20Z%207II,Sony%20ILCE-7M3).
Including all the new PDAF points, going to 33 MP, a similar performance would be fantastic.

Why do people not think first?

Seems like any and all consumer pricing, including that for alcohol, meat, et al, is going up. Not surprising it's also affecting consumer electronics pricing. Accounting for inflation, $2,399 in 2018 is $2,619 in 2021. This does not look like a price hike in the real sense from my perspective.

Firstly stop with the insulting tone and sentances like "Why do people not think first" it makes you look like an... This is a friendly community and it's always good to remember that. There are no better nor worse here.

Second - i'm not complaining. It's an opinion and it's not even that at this point in time. It's simply few thoughts IF what he said (Northrup) is true.

Also different people, have different expectations. Nothing wrong with that. Like already several people said here - IF - what Northrup said is true then for ME/US - this camera could've been named A73 II - coz imo it's a bit underwhelming for the price.

You're free to disagree, like anybody.

I honestly thought that Sony gonna update IBIS and it's gonna be better than in A7 III but it seems it's the same and with more Mpix it obviously gives worse results. I like to use 3rd party lenses which most of the time dont have OSS.

I thought it will have better EVF than my A7R III but im not sure it will, althou he didn't say anything about this in the video, so i'm going by rumors for now.

For some reason AF in video looked bad in Northrup video.

I didn't even care for more fps, i thought thou it's gonna be 15 but that's not a big deal for me i dont do wildlife. Same way i didn't care for the new menu system, since i know the old one very well and it works fine for me.

Again everything i said is based on that video and by extension an assumption that everything Northrup said is correct/true.

Don't get me wrong it's a very good camera, i'm just not sure that the changes are as massive as i would expect to be for it to be called A7 IV. For me A7 III was a technological breakthrough when compared to A7 II. This feels like a way smaller upgrade with a price bump.

I'm still surprised they don't seem to coordinate their ibis with the lens like canon does (or if they do it doesn't get the same effect). This might actually be something where the wider mount really does matter.
