I saw it there, I would not rely on that number. However, that is a number that has been mentioned to me from insiders as recently as this morning. It would be a very aggressive pricing strategy. The cost to build the Z9 is well below the D6, so it is possible for Nikon to make its margin at that price.

The champagne will flow in the Nikon community if that is the number...

Amen to that

If it is priced at $5500, it is a cutthroat price to A1 and it is only around $1600 more than R5 price but in a way, it could also be close enough price wise to be considered a competitor to R5, more features to justify the somewhat higher price. However, if it is $2000+ more expensive then I don't think anyone would consider it a real competitor to R5.

This could be a body that can answer to both Sony and Canon.

Between 5500 and 6000 makes sense to me in the current market for a number of reasons. We will know them, and have plenty of time to discuss pricing after the full announcement. For now let's wait and celebrate Nikon's new flagship camera.

When you think about it the Z9 doese fit well into the space right between Canon’s
And Sony's offerings. Why not price it there too.

Based on the specs leaked so far I see the Z9 as a significantly better camera than the R3, so if they undercut or even equal the price of that camera that is a huge win for Nikon. It will leave Canon with a challenging decision about how to price their upcoming flagship camera.

Looking forward to finding out the answer later today.

The saving grace for R3 at the moment may be the eye control focus. I really have no idea how well it works but all the internet review so far seems to rave about it.
The only video clip I saw is the Canon official one with 2 motorbikes. Looks a bit jumpy to me and sure you can switch between the two motorbikes that is about 20% of the screen apart but I have no idea how sensitive it is and how well it would work in team sport where you have several people in the frame. However, I assume it works well according to all the positive words it is getting.
This is something that Sony or Nikon is unlikely to have in the foreseeable future I would think.

42 minutes... who's excited? Keeping my fingers and toes crossed Nikon delivers...competition is a good thing. The 24-120 F/4 is going to be interesting as well...the new FTZ adapter looks much better.

Yep, very impressed and it's good to know Nikon is still in the game. Benefit of being 3rd place in MILC market share is that we get a great product at the lowest price point vs. the competition.

They're aggressively trying to regain market.

Not to derail the thread, but the R5 overheating debacle and the size of the z9 make me wonder how Sony made the A1 in such a smaller form factor, much lighter and still support 8K, many months before Canon or Nikon.

Interestingly, all 4 of Nikon’s FX bodies are now the cheapest in class in their respective classes, and class-leading for their price point.

Z9 is either the best $5500 camera or the cheapest halo body
Z7II at $3k is cheaper than a A7RIV list and better than an A7RIII. It struggles the most because you can get A7RIV’s at the same price on sale these days, but the differences between the two in performance are a toss-up for anything other than BiF IMHO.
Z6II at $2k is cheaper than an A7IV or R6 and beats the A7III in most regards (and stomps the R IMHO)
Z5 is far and away the best sub-$2k body.

Sony has a ton more capital to invest than Canon or Nikon. It appears to be playing the long game, like Amazon has done with online shopping for a long time. Invest heavily in top end technology without increasing prices necessarily to gain market share. Sony's corporate earnings are about 4 times Canon's earnings, if I remember correctly from the last time I looked. Nikon's corporate earnings are a lot smaller than Canon's, I believe. . . . That's my theory anyways. Also, look at supply chain problems. Sony has much better stock at the larger retailers (i.e. B&H) than Canon (I haven't checked for Nikon). I suspect that's because Sony is such a larger market player in general that it has found ways to better mitigate supply chain problems. Again, all just theories (speculation if you prefer), no proof.

Posting questionable sources to justify a whim has a record of eliciting condemnation in this forum. Attempts to cite this channel here previously generate noise and another brand war.

As with so many things during the last few years as Nikon struggled to catch up in mirrorless camera technology the vitriol, and defensive reactions to valid criticism proved to be unfounded. Just plain wrong again. Here, with the attacks on Jared Polin epitomizes what has been going on.

Not only was he speaking with absolute knowledge and accuracy, he is one of a few that had the Z9 in advance, for an extended time, and with dedicated Nikon support engineers to answer his questions, and take is input under consideration. It turns out that Everything he said was spot on, and true.

Beyond that, Nikon trusted him to give honest feedback and review. This despite the Nikon fan base calling him every vile name in the book including being a dedicated Nikon hater on some sort of vendetta. Maybe time to consider that he is just saying what he believes. Much like the many here here on FM who have been treated similarly.

Jared Polin's initial review on the Z9 is very positive. He is perfectly willing to say positive things when he finds them. He appears to have done a good and detailed job of testing in real life situations. Personally I find that much more informative than the canned presentations we got with the launch. I did enjoy those also, amazing work for sure. But reviews like JP's are more useful in evaluating what the camera really brings.

Keeping all this in mind, it is my hope we can discuss the Z9 in an open and friendly way, without all the vitriol.

The Nikon community will like this JP video I think.

Enjoy it!!!!!

Well said. I speed watched about 1/2 that video but then had to go to work....got to pay for a Z9 somehow
I'll finish it up tonight.
As you know, I've been a strong proponent of his review videos. He is right to point out that he is one of very few who have likely shot R5, R3, A1 and Z9 and can give a more balanced comparison.
Sure 3 days is 3 days and some may say that isn't enough time for a fair review. But when someone has lots of familiarity with the high end MILC systems and is able to put himself in front of subjects he is used to in those three days then three days can mean a lot.

I did have to when he yells out to Z6/7II shooters to stop hoping for some magical AF FW.

All the speculation about the state of mind of the users (or "user base") of one brand or another does not help to get back to some kind of fact-based discussion. Other speculations about the reasons for certain business decisions does not help either.

I'm now waiting for the first reports of those that have actually used the camera.
