From a commenter on NR who seems in the know. And it fits what Peter@NR was told recently by a source, that the price would be a surprise in a positive way.
I saw it there, I would not rely on that number. However, that is a number that has been mentioned to me from insiders as recently as this morning. It would be a very aggressive pricing strategy. The cost to build the Z9 is well below the D6, so it is possible for Nikon to make its margin at that price.
The champagne will flow in the Nikon community if that is the number...

If it is priced at $5500, it is a cutthroat price to A1 and it is only around $1100 more than R5 price but in a way, it could also be close enough price wise to be considered a competitor to R5, more features to justify the somewhat higher price. However, if it is $1700-1800 more expensive then I don't think anyone would consider it a real competitor to R5.
This could be a body that can answer to both Sony and Canon.
