What I‘m interested in: those of you who plan to give it a try. Are there any lenses you own which the Tamron might replace?

Moin zeitlos,
As I‘ve got only the Zony 55 and the Sigma 24-70 2.8 left (sold Sony’s 20, 35 and 85 1.8), it might replace the Sigma but I still have some concerns that I would miss the 24mm. Would probably add the 24GM to the Tamron IF I buy the Tamron.

Interesting!

I also have the Sigma 24-70. Just bought it recently (about three months ago). Basically, I would like to reduce it to the 35-150 only. But I think that the 24-70 has been a universal/valuable zoom range for so long for a good reason. So I doubt (but I may be wrong) that I personally could replace it with the 35-150 alone. Moreover, I’m also not sure that the 35-150 will be a full replacement for the situations I needed a 24-70 for. But again, maybe I‘m wrong. 35-150mm Tamron plus 24GM also sounds good to me.
But as I said, the 24-70mm really is a butter and bread lens

Apparently we are sitting in the same boat in Germany I bought my Sigma last month only for the purpose of having a zoom lens during our vacation at the Baltic Sea. But decided to keep it due to its versatility.

And I fell in love with 24mm, so 24GM is already on my buy list. However, I think I will either buy the 35-150 (and sell the Sigma) or the Tamron 70-180 (and keep the Sigma). Time will tell

Oh, no! I hadn't considered that. Two-thirds of a pound more than the 70-180/2.8? I'm certain to collapse under all that extra weight. Only Heracles could survive such a burden.

If it makes you feel more manly, you can always tie an extra pound weight to your wrist and carry it around all day. What the hell, make it an extra kilo.

When ones work is challenged and he responds, it's only fair to own up with your own work when asked. That baton was passed.

All I know is it will be a great addition to my stable if it’s even close to the 70-200GM in image quality, since that lens is meh at best. I’ll gladly replace that lens with anything that comes remotely close.

The Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 has much better IQ than the old 70-200 GM. But in your line of work the missing 20mm, the 15 FPS limit, no TC available, and lack of OSS, may be too much to give up. These same missing features will also be missing in this 35-150 Tamron I should think.

Especially considering a new Sony 70-200 2.8 GM is rumored to be released soon.

I don't know about that. I tried 3 copies of the Tamron thinking that even if it was just as good as the GM, I would keep it and none of the 3 could match the GM I had rented from a local store here. That GM was not awesome either to begin with IMO so looks like I was super unlucky with my 70-180mm attempt.
The 17-28 I had though, that one was great.

Luis,

I have seen your posts regarding the 70-180 f/2.8 Tamron. I really don't know what to say or how to explain it. Mine was great straight out of the box. The same with all of my other Tamron lenses.

Have you spoken to your local Tamron Representative regarding this issue. Tamron service is great. I think your Rep will do what it takes to get you a great copy.

Like you said, I have never been impressed with the 70-200 GM.. MY 70-180 was noticeably sharper.

Steve

Since I tried 3 copies, I was like "I am done" with it.
The GM needs an upgrade just like the 85mm 1.4 GM.

I don‘t know how and I don‘t know why, but you seemed to have missed crucial parts of the conversation. By the way: we are not in ancient Rome. But well, never mind.

That's very righteous I guess, but you didn't answer my question .

It has nothing to do with anyone's manhood. If it did, we'd obviously be talking about the length and girth of the lens, not the weight.

Man or woman, 2/3's of a pound more isn't going to be the end of the world. If it helps a shooter work an event more efficiently and effectively, I doubt it'll give them much to complain about.

Truth be told neither do I. But on the occasions that I do, I want that option.

Funny how fast we come to view the exceptional as the required. I have only had the a1 and the ability to shoot 30 fps for a few months.

But Tamron is calling the lens the ultimate travel lens where people might be carrying the lens for weeks at a time, all day long, not for a few hours to maybe a day at an event. Don’t know your experience lugging around a big lens in humid hot countries, but I have done plenty and the weight of this lens is a huge issue for travel.

Just like shooting at iso 12,800…very rare for me, but when I need it it sure is nice to have it.

There are going to be several live YouTube streams featuring shoots done with the 35-150 starting tonight at 7pm PST looks like. That second link, they are doing 3 straight days with it starting tonight at 11pm PST. Maybe get to see some outdoors as well as studio. Links below. None of the major YouTube reviewers outside of Japan have received this yet, very strange. Only Tamron affiliated reviewers, no independent reviewers.

I have traveled with one lens only just once - three weeks all over India. I took 2470GM than.
If I were going today, I would take 35150 - hell a lot of opportunities in exchange of 250 grams of weight difference.
With addition of 1635GM I would be absolutely covered, but even without it 35150 will cover 80+% of the shots I have actually done and much-much more.
If you were going for 3 weeks trip to India or Morocco with just one lens, what would be your choice?)
