I preordered mine a couple of days ago. I hope I‘m not affected by the shortage.
Weight shouldn‘t be an issue for portrait shootings. If you use a Sigma 135mm 1.8 for example, it‘s equal in weight and quite common.
I even have the Sigma 105 1.4 and even though it IS heavy, it is okay for portrait shootings if you don‘t take it with you for spontaneous shootings but for planned shootings.
With that being said, I‘m not sure how good it qualifies as a travel lens. Again, for planed shootings on a journey I have no problems with the weight. However, as a walk around lens for casual shootings it might be to heavy.
What I‘m concerned of is size. Hard to explain but size to me often is of more concern than weight. Event though both interact.
BTW. In Germany some stores switched from “available at the end of October“ to “in 2 weeks“. ...Show more →
Yep, that's my main gripe about it, it's like Sigma 35mmF1.2 but 2 cm longer (retracted!).
I think I'd have to try it to see if it's still acceptable for walkaround use for me. On the other hand, if I needed that flexibility (so pro-like stuff) I would not hesitate, as the IQ and AF are looking good so far...

Still smaller and lighter than carrying a 28-75/2.8 and 70-180/2.8, and lighter than the 70-200GM alone. If you can live with the limitations in focal length and want the extra speed at the wide end, it could be a solid trade-off.
But you are stuck carrying the entire weight hanging off your neck or shoulder all the time. I'd much rather carry two lenses that are 600gm each, one on a camera and the other in a pack on my back, than having to carry the entire weight always on my camera.

It's interesting to think about that. I have the CV35/2, CV50/2, and will soon have the Sigma 90/2.8. Those three together weigh 1011g. Another option might be the CV35/2, Sigma 65/2, and Batis 135/2.8, but that combo weighs 1371g. Obviously none of these are the smallest primes, but to get similar aperture and reach, it's pretty hard to put together a combo that weighs less, much less with the flexibility of the zoom. Pretty tempting to me for some purposes.
The big difference between lighter primes and one big heavy zoom is you cannot lighten your load with the zoom, it's always hanging on your camera, every day...every hour as you pound the street. With primes, you can have a light setup on your camera...and faster aperture with the remaining primes in your backpack where it is MUCH easier to carry the weight than hanging off your camera.

Sure but it all depends, i use PD clip and the 500g more than my current lens wont make any difference for walking but the convenience of not having to reach to my backpack ever time i another focal range is a VERY big win for me.

Like always, different people, different needs.
Actually my primes are in the 200 to 400gm range...so a big difference hanging off my camera. The primes also give me a faster aperture which I need for indoor or dim light shooting.

I get your point, we all do. I'm just saying that there are different use scenarios / preferences and this lens gonna work for many of us even it doesn't work for you. Again, different people, different needs. There is no right or wrong here.
For me it will work just fine, like i said 500g more than i have right now on my PD clip will make little to no difference and having F2 to F2.5 (for the range i use the most) is great for me + added bonus of 80-150/F2.8.
It's an unique zoom lens, obviously not for everybody but for "many" it gonna be an almost perfect lens. Again thou, i understand that for you it's a "no thanks" and that's fine.
Thanks but this is stuff we already know and photos we have already seen. Was hoping this would be an actual hands on review but Tamron is apparently hiding this lens away from independent reviewers. It was announced TWO MONTHS ago and being released in a few weeks and still no Youtube reviewers I talk to have a copy, but they all have the 28-75 G2 and the 18-300 that was announced 3 weeks after the 35-150. Something sketchy is up and I definitely would not be preordering this till some real reviews start coming in.

You're acting like pre-ordering is a death sentence if the lens fails to live up to the hype. You can cancel a pre-order at any time with B&H and have a 30-day return policy. As for the weight, I shoot hand-held all day with the Sony 200-600, which weighs 950g more than this lens. I think I'll survive.
We get it, this lens doesn't fit your style of shooting. But for many others (myself included), this is going to be a perfect addition to their ktis.

I mean, it‘s clear that the majority has different views in comparison to this member. Who else is a pro photographer shooting for the Playboy magazine with a 28-200mm lens, editing in Luminar AI? That is a highly idiosyncratic constellation. In my view, evaluations must therefore inevitably differ significantly from one another.

There seems to be a misunderstanding. I have not put anything personal in the room, just summarized statements that you have made here. It was an illustration of why nobody (or hardly anybody) can do anything with your statements. I still come to the same conclusion. For someone who heaves himself into the highest spheres, these were just too many statements that make no sense either way (to me).
This is not about my work. Or have I somewhere - in contrast to you - put my work in the foreground and then put strange (conspiracy) theories and (in my opinion) strange views on the uses and wastes of photographic equipment into the room (without any proof)? Again and again. If they make sense to you, it‘s fine with me.
Maybe we can get back to discuss the lens. I hope mine will arrive soon. As I stated, delivery time seems to have shortened. I might travel to Georgia (country) at the end of October. So this would come in handy.
P.S. In which edition(s) were your photos published?
P.P.S. Just to be clear. I see no obstacle in being a pro and using a 18-200. I brought it up because it was you who indicated (multiple times) that no pro would use this and that or do this and that. So better let people decide what‘s best for them.

Ok, thanks for the clarification and I apologize for any misunderstanding. The photos can be found in the Feb 2015 issue I believe. Back on topic...

Let‘s pass it on to the one who first get‘s a copy of the Tamron. That would make sense.
if I like it, I will sell my Tamron 70-180 (which I rarely use) and maybe also my Batis 40 + Zeiss 50 1.4.
I‘m one of the candidates who might replace multiple lenses with this one. Of course, as has been stated, a 50mm 2.2 etc. (zoom) might not fully replace a 50 1.4. On the other hand if you use it as an amateur like me, you might end up with more pictures and thus in the long run (hopefully) also better images. A pro, who really depends on 50mm 1.4 shots might see it differently. It might be flexibility vs. the last bit of “quality“.
What I‘m interested in: those of you who plan to give it a try. Are there any lenses you own which the Tamron might replace?

Hm, they already have a 17-28. F2.8 But if the 35-150 really is an upgrade in image quality, this might be an option. However, then it should be a 17-35 F2.0-2.8
