Robert,
Check out this company: https://paddlenorth.com The Kayaks are inflatable, but super durable. I am looking to buy a tandem in the next week or so. They are designed for MN rivers and lakes, so I am pretty sure that they will support your kayaking needs in Maine.
I've decided to go this route so I won't need to hoist a composite kayak on my roof. In addition, I am looking to buy or build-out a camper in a micro-cargo van. Because these kayaks pack into a bag, they can be stored easily in the camper.
cheers,
bruce
I gave both models a quick look. Have not eliminated this yet. Will take another look or two.
Did not see mention of how long it takes to inflate.
I have no doubt now that these are durable/reliable.

A few shots of the Blue Angels from the air show this weekend here in Chicago. Shot from the ground because I'm not cool enough to have access to tall buildings.

Buying a camper that inserts into the bed sounds exciting for me too.
Robert,
RE the kayaks, they indicate that it take 10 minutes to fully inflate with their pump (included). It will probably take twice as long until you get the hang of it, but then it's quick to fill. They also sell a powered pump that hooks into a car socket...
I've seen a cross-section of the kayak, and their plastic/rubber composite is very thick.
As for the van, we head to see one tomorrow. As we approach retirement (2 years or so...), I am trying to get some of these "wants" for a retired life paid for before I have to rely on my savings and pension for the bulk of my income....

I take a lot of pics and often it's just hard to narrow it down to two or three pictures, sorry. Andrew2 wrote:
