I had the 135GM and got some amazing photos of a mountain Lion on our deck at 1:30am but been trying to stay with lighter options and 2.8 on the newer Sony bodies is fast enough for any low light i will shoot.
Loved the smooth reflections app on my previous A7R2. Enjoying the A7C with the flip screen for lower perspective shots and closeups and smaller size and weight. Everything has some compromise
I need the 135 GM for sports. I'm the official sports photographer at my kid's high school. ;-) ...and I think it's one of the best tools for the job. (The Batis is ok but not ideal under low light)
I used to be the volunteer photographer at my CrossFit gym in Boulder. Tried the 70-200GM. AF was not good enough in the poor lighting and definitely needed 1.8. Don’t do that anymore since i moved so while I considered buying your copy of the 135GM on the B&S from another owner being patience won this time for me with your Batis 😎
Fred, I think fotografur was referring to the fact that you recently posted an image of your wife on the 50GM image thread: was this a mistake? i.e. it was actually shot with the CV 50 f1.2, or are you in possession of a copy of the 50GM??

At that time, I had both lenses. The Voigtlander 50/1.2 Nokton M-mount and FE 50/1.2 GM. That picture from my wife was taken with the GM.

I just (a couple of hours ago) purchased a BATIS 135 here on FM and fairly unusually for me had a moment of buyers remorse. This thread/these images flipped it back around to excitement!
First off, thanks to everyone who gave me advice on this fantastic lens. The weather here in NYC was great today so, while pressed for time, I did a speed run through Central Park and I’ve been very pleased with the results. The focus was fast and accurate, it was compact and didn’t call attention to me (without the hood anyway, I threw on a UV filter for some protection) and the rendering is fantastic. I’m very happy with the performance of this lens. Although I am curious how the new Samyang 135 will perform when that’s out. Anyway, can’t complain.

I just acquired a second hand Batis 135 for the reasons you mention, plus landscapes. I do mostly travel / hiking / nature photography with occasional street and urban photography, and the low weight of Batis made me want it over the otherwise excellent 135 GM. Shallow dof portraits are not a priority for me.
Also worth mentioning, originally Batis 135 was a very expensive lens, but the second hand prices are very tempting right now Mint condition lenses are sold at 50% of the original price.
Has anyone used extension tubes with this lens? I have not yet fully explored the topic, but I am playing with an idea to double use Batis a semi macro lens.
I got mine new for $1300 on amazon during a flash sale they were having around Christmas. Random items would go on sale and I caught it at the right time. But yes, used the price has really come down and it's a great value. And while you are not getting super shallow depth of field, you can still get solid results with 2.8. The lens is perfect with what you're using it for. You get the reach and very low weight while out on those hikes.
