Love the compression Joshua! Beautiful colors showing off this beautiful city.

That is a very very good shot. Really enjoyed looking at it...
Curious what the rest of your travel kit is and how you carry it ie bag, pack. Very interested in this lens but my current travel kit fills my PD 6 and while this lens is light for the focal length it is thick so I will need to get a different bag/pack
Thanks AGeoJO wrote:

Thanks
I went to Venice for the Mask Carnival and I took my heavy lenses to cover the activities there; they are Sigma 105mm f/1.4, Sony 50mm f/1.4 Zeiss Planar, Sony GM 24mm f/1.4. The GM 24mm is for sure not big nor heavy but the first two, especially the Sigma are monstrous. From there I went to Cinque Terre and there, I left my prime lenses at the Air B-n-B place and used two zoom lenses, Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 DG DN and Sony G 24-105mm f/4. The final destination in Italy was Florence and there I used two 2 zoom lenses, the Batis 135mm and Sony GM 24mm f/1.4.
I use a roller bag to carry all my gear around; it is not made for carrying photographic equipment but just a regular roller bag made by Samsonite. The brand doesn't matter of course. All lenses, cameras are inside Thinktank pouches. I use a TT belt system and take selected lenses out using the belt system. I pick and choose what I need that way and I don't have to carry the whole shebang with me.
I have been carrying my gear this way for some 10 years and even on birding trips, like birding trips to Costa Rica and Ecuador. I carry my GM 600mm and G 200-600mm lens that way. The casters of the roller bag do the heavy lifting, especially around the airport or in the terminal during transit. I still have to lift that bag and put it in the overhead compartment once in a while. But no big deal.
Here is how my bag looks like for a birding trip and there will more room for non-birding trips there:
Thanks for your trip kit info. I downsize to the A7C specifically for travel and primes that balance weight, size and IQ. I am missing focal length over 65 and I think the Batis would work nicely

Really like how you captured the city. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic!
Did you visit Michaelangeo’s tomb?

Thank you very much! I am glad you like that image. I was in Florence a few times previously and the last few times I was there, I had a DSLR system. This was my first visit with a mirrorless system. And yes, I did visit his tomb and went to see David's statue at the Accademia, too during the last visit.

Wow great colors and background blur Fred!
How does this comer to the SAL 135 1.8 A-mount, that you tried out?
I am think the Batis is more practical due to better autofocus and manageable size.
They are both 135mm but very different lenses with unique strengths. The main 135/1.8 A-mount's shortcomings are the noticeable axial CA, AF and size/weight with adapter. Superb smooth rendering is its virtue.
The Batis solves all the Zeiss' shortcomings though. It does not render like the Zeiss 135/1.8 but I still find the Batis' draw very Zeiss-like with high contrast and a painterly rendering at mid-distance. At close distance, rendering is smooth with adequate blur even at f/2.8. I've been using the B135 since its introduction and have no complaints.
The way I’m thinking, it’s going to be long time before another lens like the B135 is made. Still I’d love to see someone try. The CV110 is a special lens, but it’s also a bit big and heavy and the manual focus throw is ridiculously long. Someone should make a 110 2.8 that’s lightweight, small in volume, and is under corrected for SA.
Fred, it's some what funny to think, this forum has given us long timers a chance to see you and your family grow up here. This thread jogged that memory that the forum has been around coming on 20 years now, before you shot photos of all your children. Quite amazing to have been here for more than 16 years of it. But I digress back to the batis 135 then...

Thank you!
Even though the Batis 135/2.8's lifetime has been only 4 years, it has captured my daughters and son from being kids to older teens and adults now.
Here are a few from this lens' early days...I've was digging into my archive drive. ;-)

Great image.
Yes, we are indeed fairly local from each other. One of these days, Fred, I would like to get together with you. I would say after we have put the Covid situation behind us. We are getting there slowly but surely.
Maybe we can do so when Guy Mancuso comes down here to California… @GMPhotography
