Yes, I'm disappointed with the coma. I could live with the extra vignetting over the Sigma, but not the coma. I'll wait to see more reviews, maybe the lenstip model is defective. They did mention that their model did not replicate the Sony marketing images at all in regard to coma.
OTOH, it just saved me selling my sigma!
Coma looks good everywhere else..... I think the lenstip test has something wrong or the lens is defective.

I think lenstip is simply over critical, and super zoomed in. I looked at their sample, and then albert dros, and there is a similarity when you zoom in super close. There is some coma, it's very low

Looks like a great lens. I'm not really an ultrawide shooter, so if anything, I will purchase it used at some point. Can't wait to see everyone's photos with it, though.

Looks great to me and fantastic size and weight. I think the rendering is very pleasing, and the real astro samples looks great. Preordered this one, just hope I wont get any bad copy issues .

Astro looks good there. Will pre-order—I’ve been waiting for this lens for years.
Albert Dros is a fabulous photographer. I love his work and this set of photos is a great showcase for the lens. He is also a Sony artisan, so we can't expect anything negative to be said. I still see a bit of coma in the corners of the wide open shot with the windmill. It isn't terrible, but it is certainly there. It will be up to individual users to decide whether it bothers them.

Yes, I remember reading his Sony 20/1.8 review, which was glowing. I specifically remember the coma was a little worse in the corners when I tested the lens with some mild bat wings. He also stated the the bokeh was beautiful and soft. I found it to be good, cleanly rendered but a bit higher contrast. Overall though, I think he’s quite a good reviewer and photographer, especially considering he is an ambassador for Sony. The all-time worst was when Chad’s Wadsworth was trying to push the FE 35/1.8 as the new RX1 😂
As you know, lenses aren’t perfect. I think this new GM is quite good overall compared to the field from what I have seen and size/price/specs, coma included.
edit: Maybe I just missed it, but does he say which body those Astro photo crops are from? If it’s from the a7r3/a7r4/a1 that is seriously good.

0.5 stops more vignetting in the corners than the sigma wide open (about 3 vs 2.5 stops). By 2.8 the sigma is better by about 1 stop over the Sony. So far the coma seems fine in night sky examples. The vignetting trade off seems reasonable to save 700g of weight.

Nice looking lens. The size and weight are groundbreaking. Not sure I'm in though, seeing as how I have the Sigma 14-24 already, and I don't usually shoot astro that wide.

I strongly believe that Sony optimized the infinity performance on this lens and sacrifice the closer distance performance to keep the size and weight down; a few reviews pointed out at closer distance, the corners are smeared/soft, very much in line with what Lenstip is testing. So I don't think the Lenstip's copy is defective, just that they were testing the lens at the non optimized range. A few direct comparisons out there between the GM and Sigma show that the GM is sharper in the corners at WO. I already have the Sigma DG DN zoom but I'm sure to pick this up. I think it's time to sell my CV 50 APO to go full on GM.
