what a great lens to have in the lineup
At the end of last year, I was able to pick up the 24, 135, and 200-600 for prices that would normally be impossible. And for the first time in my photographic life, I thought "I finally have the complete kit I would ever want or need. I never need to buy another lens."

Perhaps but the thing about the sigma is it goes away super fast. Even at 2.2 it’s much improved so we’ll see. I hope it is! The issue with the sigma is the coma even at 2.2. Obviously excited about this lens. Hopefully available pretty much after the announcement

Looks pretty fat, and has the bulbous element. Sigma is 2.5-3 stops, doubt it will be worse than that.

They just need to release the FE 85/1.4 GM II (same rendering but way faster AF) + 200/2 + 300/2.8 lenses.
I won’t be surprised if they skip the 85 1.4GM II and go straight to an 85/1.2GM. They might be able to pull it off at close to the same size as the current 85GM.
At this point, I’m not betting against Sony when it comes to magic tricks.

If the 14/1.8 GM is as good as the Voigtländer 15/4.5 at flare resistance and has an as good sunstar, then it could actually be useful. Soon we will know.

The power of mirrorless to cut size and weight on the wide end is amazing. I still prefer the flexibility of a 14-24/2.8 zoom over a dedicated 14mm lens but I bet astrophotographers will rejoice.

Someday they will make a tilt shift lens. Till then, nothing new for me.
The market is just too small to be pressured to release them quickly. Additionally they are quite expensive and heavier than comparable standard lenses. Look at Nikon's new TS,

It looks like a middleweight. Weight is relative here, the CV 15/4.5 - around three stops slower - is 300 grams. From the handfilling images this one looks like 450 grams, similar to the emerging standard of the GMs 24mm and 35mm.
As they should, Sony is out front with such a fast ultra wide angle. They will have this niche all to themselves in practical terms, and the optical quality will be very high, surprisingly so. Form counts in this issue, and their's is great.

“But it’s not big enough to be stable for my manly muscles! It looks, feels, and weighs in like a toy! And besides, Sony cameras are more like computers than real cameras! Where does my dangling pinky rest on my anorexic Sony camera body?!?! Can I bathe my Sony in a firehose and still have it survive like none of my other cameras?!?”
Sony proves its detractors wrong with every release it seems. Now I really need to think about pulling the trigger on a 12-24 GM.

My guess this is probably more like 700-800 grams, expect it to be full of glass. But that is still a huge saving over the Sigma.
