Two basically (I was handholding and not using tripod) identical images - first at f1.4 and second at f8. I like both, but the f8 image is probably my first pick. This lens is so versatile and I love its rendering at any f-stop.

Well, no mud in that lake...
I've also had some fun by using the lens wide open in situations where it usually isn't possible to get a sharp image that way. There is seldom any point in it though - but fun.
One thing in your image I notice is sharpening halos between sky and trees. Maybe some oversharpening over all as well (but after having seen the halos I get biased).
Maybe you can get an image "sharp enough" by holding back a little?

Well...either you have better eyes than I do (which is likely ) or you zoomed into the image. I can't see any halos on either my iPad or my 5000K iMac unless I zoom in. I usually post 1500-1800 pixel images that aren't meant to be zoomed, just viewed as an image.
This site compresses images when uploaded, so unless I do a smart sharpen in photoshop, the images always look "muddy."
I agree that too much sharpening is worse than not enough.
If somebody can tell me how to make Firefox (Windows) to always show images at 100% I would appreciate a call.
Here the image was actually downsized a little as I had two windows open side by side. The monitor is a profiled colormanaged Benq 4K 32" thing and yes, i reacted to the halos. To be sure i downloaded the image and opened it in Photoshop and I see it there as well, at 100% and then of course when enlarged to 200% just to check I didn't made a mistake.
Maybe it simply is the way it is: we are all different and sensitive to different things. I don't like LoCA and I react to halos while not being super sensitive to color "errors" and actually prefer monochrome in many situations.
I like the scene though and would also have taken an image. Cheers!
How different are you finding it to the A9 dan? I loved that camera but the heavy green tints (and bad weather sealing) caused me to use an R5 instead. I'm missing the sony flip up screen (hate flip out) and the live af tracking mode so it is tempting to get an A1. But only if the colors are finally fixed.
Could someone give an answer please?
What kind of coupling does the lens have: mechanic or focus-by-wire?
And how good/convenient is it for acquiring focus manually? I have experience with ZE 100MP which is awesome for manual focus.
I think nearly all (or all?) Sony AF lenses are focus-by-wire.
The good thing about 35GM is that its MF is linear I think, but it is too sensitive to be used comfortably. A slight touch to the focusing ring makes changes to the focus position.
So, unless you like it that way, I'd recommend against it for manual use.
Edit: Just checked it again and it's actually not that bad. Once you get used to high sensitivity, it's very smooth to operate and rather usable. I'd still prefer a bit longer focus throw though.

It was the magenta cast, and muddy yellows which I didn't care for with the A9, the A1 I have been very happy with.
My favourite thing about the A1 is the zero interface lag. With the A9 if I took a photo, realised it was the wrong aperture, dialled it in and took another photo - if I did all this within a second, it wouldn't register the aperture change. The A1 is instantly
responsive.
I'm finding good use for 30FPS, having short amounts of time to capture gymnastic movements yesterday - it allowed us to pick out the perfect shot, when 20FPS just wasn't cutting it.
I didn't buy grips for the A1 and replaced my belt holster for a peak design strap and standard belt attachment.
There's flash in silent mode, anti-flicker, great EVF - just a refined experience all round.
It all looks pretty perfect, i'd probably get an a9ii as backup / long lens holder really as 24-70 or 35 is my go to for nearly everything. Just annoying as Sony Pro have no loaners with the olympics so the only option is to just buy and see. Also sold my Leica Q with an aim to maybe just using the a1 for everything, personal stuff as well with a small prime.

I have Q2, Q2M and a pair of Sony A1
I have not felt the desire to replace the Q2 with a Sony A1 yet.. I tried the 28mm f2 on my Sony A9 for street - but I was not keen.
Just enjoying my 35mm GM. I still have not figured out how to keep the detail and sharpness when lowering the resolution to be able to post photos here. In full resolution they look great though.
Yea I loved the Q - colors/body/lens but found it a little wide for everyday - i'd prefer a 35 or 50 I think and it just couldn't keep up with breaking news, I'd started leaving it at home too much to justify having. But i LOVED the camera.
I'd look at the A1/35GM as a do it all and I guess if I don't get the same enjoyment.... buy an x100v or something. If they made a Q 35/50 i'd spend anything for that. Couldn't focus an m10 to save my life!
My biggest issues with it are the lack of IBIS and weather sealing, but both of those can be planned around. It has the best IQ of an AF lens I've seen.
