Are you sure high contrast is a benefit for B&W?
It depends on the subject matter. I like the high contrast/microcontrast look which is why I really liked my SL2/APO Summicron-SL lenses for black and white. I could always dial it back a little in post, but adding it if it isn’t there to begin with isn’t so easy.
FWIW, APO lenses or lenses that are close to being APO seem to provide more contrast, microcontrast and definition when converting to black and white.
I am finding that when I convert images taken with the 35GM to B&W, I have in some instances been dialing down the contrast after fine tuning the shadows, highlights and blacks. The lens produces plenty of contrast.

beautiful shots! Are these crops, or did you really get that close?
Thanks! They're both cropped on the sides, but hardly cropped vertically. So I was much closer than I would normally be for a 35mm portrait, but was testing out the rendering and blur. I was worried this lens might have harsh rendering, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

I never would have thought a 35mm lens would be good for close-up portraits, but these are beautiful!
Ignoring the chance we may get snow tomorrow morning, my back yard is celebrating spring. Here's a shot at f/2 and 2.8. Pretty remarkable how sharp and well corrected this lens is up close.
Must be along the CA coast near Pescadaro? I know the lighthouse spot.... and clearly know about the microclimates. I live in the Bay Area as well

Some gorgeous flower and landscape shots last two pages. Wonderful lens from close up to infinitely far...and cute kid portraits in between.

Some foggy shots from the same day and only 15 miles away from the sunny ones I posted previously...MICRO-climates!!!
