DPreview video shows tons of focus breathing. Has anyone seen any reviews yet that measure around what focal length the lens ends up being at various focus distances?

One of the reviews (I can't remember which one) said that it's closer to 47mm than 50mm. No idea what distance, though.

Manny Ortiz said it was wider and you could see it in that part of the video...I think his '47mm' was just a guess. But Gerald also showed quite a bit of breathing, though he didn't measure it. I suspect that will matter for video folks.

?
I watched quite a few videos and they said focus breathing is minimal, esp. if not going from MFD to infinity.

lenstip review: "No significant focus shift"
&feature=emb_logo
Focus shift and focus breathing are different. Focus shift is the plane of focus shifting forward or backward as you stop down, something Lenstip measures. Focus breathing is when focal length changes moving from infinity to MFD.
I don't know about focus shift, but I'd trust Lenstip. There is definitely focus breathing. Test starts at 2:25 and is indexed as such.

As Manny stated, they're all fantastic lenses. Pretty cool that all three major mirrorless systems now have killer ultra fast 50s. Biggest differentiator that I could see was the size of the Nikon...it be big.

You are right, I was sloppy.
Now, I'm not a video guy, so focus breathing isn't something that has bothered me that much or something that I'd even notice, other than the old Nikon 70-200mm VRII being much (75mm or so equivalent FOV) shorter at MFD. But, if you use video and, say, did a focus pull of something at a wedding or an event, I guess that would matter.

Ya just watch it. Its funny i watched like 6-7 reviews from different people, and they have pretty different conclusions. For example in Manny video CA is very well controlled but watched another video where it was extremely bad. Flaring is one that has mixed reviews. Sharpness seems to be great across all of them, bokeh also kind of mixed. Overall for the price and size seems like a no brainer for everyone that wants a 50. But i would advice people that dont have diamond hands to wait a bit for better full reviews and then make the decision if they wanna spend the big bucks on it.

Thank you. I could not find out anywhere when it expected to ship. So I have 6-10 wks to come up with the cash.
I understand from previous posts people are lining up to sell their kidneys. Where is that line forming?

I think I can live with heavy vignetting or focus breathing as I don't care too much for those but 2 things from lenstip review might affect overall picture quality imho:
* rather unexpected astigmatism
* moustache distortion.
Not deal breakers, but something to keep in mind I think.

Lateral CA seems well controlled, but most importantly longitudinal CAs (lenstip tested that, too) are very low.
Manny's video is very positive regarding the Sony. The Nikon is visibly less sharp when zooming in. I find the Nikon and Sony to generate a much nicer background bokeh, look at 5:55. The Sony has less vignetting, additionally.
Much of the excellent performance regarding AF is due to the superior performance of the A1, imo, which is just fantastic.
